It seems a way forward is to place my LiveType text on the timeline and change the Field Dominance to none in the sequence settings. But what can I do with the two freeze frames I have further along the timeline? Because of the change in FD the two stills now jitter!

Is there a way of getting around that problem?

Hi all,

David, that’s what I thought Rafael meant and the quality didn’t improve. However, when I changed the Field Dominance to ‘None’ the text looked a lot clearer and that was with the Compressor set to DV-PAL!

I then played my edited footage and it all played well until it hit a still image and then you noticed a problem with the picture. So I reset the Field Dominance settings back to Lower (Even) and of course my titles don’t look crisp and clear!

Your thoughts?

Hi Rafael,

Thanks for responding. Do you mean changing the codec on the timeline? For example, I double click the title on the timeline and leave the play head on the clip. Then go to Sequence/Settings and change the codec under the General tab? Or have I got it wrong?

If that is what you mean, I’ve tried it and it didn’t work. Perhaps I’m doing something wrong!

Hi Hector,

Thanks again for the screen prints and setting advice. I’m now having trouble with placing Live Type text on that projects timeline – the text appears jagged! I’ve tried experimenting with different settings but not having any luck.

Also, is there an easy way to make smaller clips out of a long clip? I’ve captured 30 minutes of footage and now want to break the clip down into smaller sections.

Any help would be appreciated,

I’ve been playing with the settings and although my footage is Pal DV, my sequnce setting were set to XDCAM! I’m not sure if I’m doing this right, but I have selected the whole timeline and adjusted the sequence settings to match my footage. Is that the correct thing to do?

Also…

although my footage now plays back without picture jitter on slow mo’s – I’ve noticed in the motion tabs that all my clips are set at a scale of 200. When I adjust this to 100, the picture looks fine. I think I’ve made a basic mistake, but now have a heavily edited timeline and need to make a group setting change and I’m not sure how to do that.

I am either transferring Pal DV via a Firewire connection, transferring SVHS through a DAC 100 converter or hooking up my XDCAM HD to my system. In future, am I correct in saying I have to choose the settings to match my the fooatge I am working on?

Hi Jerry,

I think I should have been a little more clearer with my posting. I am familiar with bit rates – but really looking at what settings should be used in FCP to capture footage.

Another posting suggests using Compressor to get around the 4:3 aspect ratio issue. So that’s my next step.
