No one is saying ALL config questions are time-wasters, just obvious ones from people who obviously are not working at a pro level. Like “How come my IMac won’t run render Red is real time?”

I think you don’t get it. DaVinci is not about the pre-baked approach. If you want that use Mojo. I can hand-grade a Mojo look in less the 1 minute, customized for the shot and the intent, not just using a one size fits all – which is why my hourly rate is what it is.

Besides, the mojo look is kind of out now – it has started to be associated with the no-budget productions who over-use it. If you want to see one, among other looks are in now, see Underworld and other mainstream Hollywood films, commercials or music videos. In effect what is in now is what cannot be easily overused by a simple plugin.

  • I would say get a good consumer plasma, like the new VT 50 and a copy of Lightspace along with an i1Display Pro. You will be so close to Rec 709 it will not really be possible to see the difference by eye.

For p3 get a Flanders Scientific.

Much better to work with the RAW Red files – a lot of info gets thrown out in any decode.

Agreed. I would also suggest a beginner and pro section.

Sometimes I feel like answering beginner questions – I was once a beginner – but sometimes not. With Davinci now free, the level of questions/answers has fallen below pro on the whole here.

You need 8 cores to grade Red on a Mac, more than that on PC because things are not as optimized, and Windows is a far heavier OS.

Node is present on the Tangent Wave, I believe.

I for for want “vibrance” as a parameter – this is not the same as saturation, and very fast/useful.

I also would love it of the HSL qualifier offered curved falloff – we see how well curves work and the “hue vs” curves. Speaking of curves, please let me zoom those windows to something much, much larger.

I would also very much like more granularity in the Dynamics parameters list. As it is now, if I animate a power window with lost of hand keys, but then later decide I need more softness, I have to make a key everywhere there is a motion key for that window shape, even though all I want is, say 10% more softness for the window throughout the clip – if softness were a line in the dynamics panel I could just remove animation for that, and set a value at frame 01 of the clip. (actually, REALLY handy would be a “delete all keys” button next to any animated parameter.)
