Mojo style preset for Davinci Resolve
Posted by Rusty Shackleford on March 4, 2012 at 6:02 pmI know this sounds ridiculous, but is there a way to setup a Red Giant Mojo style preset for Davinci Resolve.
I know you can’t install Mojo with Davinci, but Mojo is nice for quick coloring when pressed for time.
It would be nice if there was a way to setup some kind of preset that does what Mojo does inside Davinci so it would be using R3D data for better results than Mojo in FCP. Is this possible at all?Brandon Morris

March 4, 2012 at 6:32 pmI’d rather not dumb down this awesome set of zeros and ones to the level of “Mojo”. Let Mojo do the Mojo thing, and DaVinci do, and keep the high-end value it’s got.
I thought it was bad enough they launched Resolve Lite with unlimited nodes. Adding a “Mojo” slider wouldn’t really help on the image.
I suggest you create presets and apply them whenever you need them.

March 4, 2012 at 6:38 pmwhat i like about mojo is the sliders is that they doing a few things at once, making it faster to work when there isn’t time. and i’d like to take the process into using the raw r3d data to perhaps get better detail.
not all projects allow for time to do the ideal color grading, as i mentioned. i was just hoping to be able to still use the r3d data with the quickness of a mojo style speed.

March 4, 2012 at 10:09 pmI think you don’t get it. DaVinci is not about the pre-baked approach. If you want that use Mojo. I can hand-grade a Mojo look in less the 1 minute, customized for the shot and the intent, not just using a one size fits all – which is why my hourly rate is what it is.
Besides, the mojo look is kind of out now – it has started to be associated with the no-budget productions who over-use it. If you want to see one, among other looks are in now, see Underworld and other mainstream Hollywood films, commercials or music videos. In effect what is in now is what cannot be easily overused by a simple plugin.

March 5, 2012 at 2:23 amI already said in the original post that I know it sounds ridiculous.
I was just asking if it’s possible to create presets with adjustment sliders, similar to what is possible in After Effects.Obviously it’s not one size fits all.
I DO GET IT. And no one asked about your hourly rate.
Any look has been done. And there actually a few different looks you can get out of Mojo.
But I know nothing is better than doing it from scratch, AS I SAID IN THE ORIGINAL POST…If you aren’t going to give a response other than repeatedly just saying do it your way, then just don’t bother.

March 5, 2012 at 4:34 amI did. I replied by saying that pursuing that avenue within Resolve was using the wrong tool for the wrong application, as did the other poster. I don’t see how that’s useless.
You can save your own pre-made grades as Powergrades, but thats’ in the manual.
By my hourly rate, I meant potentially yours too, by learning to be just as fast with a more hands-on, hand-crafted approach.
Since you’re so rude, don’t worry, I won’t bother next time. Likely neither will many others in this forum.
BTW – there are some nice shots on your reel (very nice even), maybe if you were less rude, you would be famous by now.

March 5, 2012 at 4:42 amI don’t mean to be rude, but I was just wanting to know if there was a way to to set up sliders that would adjust certain settings like After Effects as a preset.

March 5, 2012 at 7:24 amNope. No customization. HOWEVER… You could make up a few presets with nodes, and adjust their opacity… Or KEY, that is. That is how much effect they have on the shot.
Give it a spin!
