[Paul Nordin] “Any help or insights would be more than welcome!”

You need to take down to the barest system that will run Resolve and see if it is stable then build back from there.

If you have the original system tray put that back in assuming it was working ok before you changed it.

Also, Cuda versions are trickey. Different systems can work better with different versions. Need to try many.

By the way, if you have anything else that uses Cuda check to see if it is OK.

    Good Luck,
    Robert

    I disagree.

Most modern applications can use additional memory to increase processing speed by not accessing the storage as much and for parallel processing. We see this in my IT business all the time. Pro applications such as editing, transcoding, and audio packages are better than most at using additional memory. Within the limits of your computer architecture, buy as much memory as you can afford. RAM and GPU really matter these days for most Pro applications.

  • [Michael Phillips] “Scratch Play is great for playing back media types, but it cannot export a any metadata files other than LUT and ASC CDL, nor has a real logging interface other than color management and manipulation.”

Good point. I was addressing the need for some folks that just need to play dailies or whatever.

  • [ross byron boughton] “am on macs using computers connected to the server via a network?”

If on Macs connected to the clips via a network then MP’s suggestion of doing monthly subscriptions to Media Composer for the producers is probably the way to go. I say this even though I really dislike software subscriptions.

You may want to test the free Scratch Player. It plays mxf’s on my system but I have the codecs installed via MC and other edit programs.

Hope you find something that works,
    Robert

  • [Michael Phillips] “I did a quick test with Resolve Lite (free) which reads a lot of different formats, but it too can be a lot of overhead for what should be a simple logging interface. One could argue the same thing with using a free trial or monthly rental of Media Composer for the same task. In Resolve, I am able to log multiple clips with one text entry if desired, lots of data fields available. The process of getting that info to Media Composer requires some steps in knowing how to use Resolve – such as make a timeline from MediaPool clips, export ALE, then you need to do some text editing of the ALE in order to properly merge an ALE onto the masters clips (master clips only for merging), etc. SO it can be done, but it is not a beginner level type logging program dedicated to logging only.”

I was going to start a metadata for MC from Resolve thread and here we are. Are you going to do an article/blog post on this? Should I understand from what you say above that if I enter info in Resolve and then make dnxhd(r)’s with an aaf for MC 8.3 I will not see the entered metadata when viewing clip info in MC?

This is definitely something Avid and BMD need to correct. This is apparently keeping some folks from starting in Resolve.

    Thanks as always MP,
    Robert

  • [ross byron boughton] “whats a nice stand alone app for the producers to screen and log the SXS cards on the server avid is my platform is avid play the deal?”

Mac or Windows? Are they going to be at the server or using computers connected to the server via a network?

March 1, 2015 at 8:27 pm in reply to: MC 8.3 and Application Manager

I uninstalled MC 8.3 and reinstalled and Application Manager is working again. I did not find a standalone installer for Application Manager.

    [Warren Eig]
    • Completely quit App Manager via right+click on Menu bar icon, selecting Quit
    • Open Activity Monitor and also stop the “AppManagerHelper” process
    • Go to /Library/Cache/Avid/
    • Delete the AppManager folder (Which removes up to 4 folders: “Db”, Cache, Downloads and Ex folders)

    RESTART COMPUTER.”

Did not work for me. Anybody got another idea?

    Uninstall Application Manger and reinstall?

This apparently happened to me after re-activating. I had activated 6.5 and 8.3 individually on my big machine.

Machine now having syncing constantly is Late 2013 Mac Book Pro with all the options and 10.9.5 .

Hope you folks are well and good,

February 6, 2015 at 9:17 pm in reply to: Importing media to Avid MC from the New Sony FS7 Camera

[philip coccioletti] “I actually downloaded this apple pro app codeck 2.0 and then just brought the files into Wondershare Video Converter Ultimate and it converted everything to HD 1920x1080p and looked great on import.”

Which is not necessary as Resolve Lite is free and can output an AAF and 1080 DnXHD media from XAVC-I UHD (3840) media. You can then send the edit from MC back to Resolve and reconnect to the original camera files.

I don’t work for BMD but I do believe in the Resolve workflow and own a Resolve Software license.

And of course you can color correct/grade in Resolve before exporting.
