I’m using Red 5.5.3.1481

The testing was done with Eye Scream 60 Animated Titles but I just tested with Animated Text Jitter and Animated Text Out, which are native library effects. No difference.

Replying to my own thread….It appears you can download 32-bit version 5.2.2 from the Boris website by going to the product updates page.

Discovered that if I set the opacity at 1 instead of 0 it works fine. Maybe there is something about the opacity being 0 Red doesn’t like.

Try applying an opacity change in Red and try it again. That sometimes makes a difference.

This thread is two years old. What the heck is going on here?What is the situation with audio on the PC side? How hard is that to implement? And, if it never gets fixed, how does an editor sync audio to animation on a PC using Red?

Here is a possible answer. It doesn’t require AE or anything other than what comes with MC:
Open QT with alpha file in AVID FX through MC using FX title matte effect.
Open FX GUI, delete second video track, export clip as AVI using defaults which has alpha. Pretty quick export, it seems.
Bring it back in to AVID FX as AVI, now with alpha.
Now all clips are AVI and all limits, either as to file format or standalone/tied to MC are solved.
This is working for me. Please check it out and report back.

AE worked. But what is the answer for those who don’t have AE? And are you just a little embarrassed to refer people to AE to get a correct file for FX? BTW, this has turned into a discussion on the AVID forums as well.

I will try AE but please note that two very common encoders, Sorenson Squeeze, bundled with AVID, and Adobe Media Encoder, do not appear to have these options. The idea is to get AWAY from using AE.
