[Paul Harb] “do I NEED to replace.”
Hi Paul, you can extend the usefulness of the G5 with our Quad / Duo Quad RAID protected SATA setup. Option of PCI-x will run in the classic PowerPC and PCI-e also available for the new Mac Pro.

[Tall Jim] “AJA have an app which will turn the .dpx frames into a Kona 3 10-bit Uncompressed quicktime movie…but where do I go from there?”
Hi, one way is to use the AJA DPXtoQTT converter to make a .mov.
Go to FCS and change the Sequence Presets to your desired ProRes configuration.
Import the .mov and drop it to the timeline, and don’t allow FCS to change the sequence setting to match the clip. This would letter box the material inside the ProRes size.
Export the timeline using Quick Time Movie and seletec the Setting matching your Sequence Preset for ProRes.
Your ProRes .mov would play using your G drives.
When you are ready to step up to DPX capable storage, check us out, the PRO DQ is very fast! Dulce also have FireWire 800 eSATA portable drives too.

[Dave Teixeira] “I looked on the web to see if I could find anything to compare my speed test to, but could not find anything.
Do these speeds seem about what I should be getting.”Hi Dave, here is a performance map for comparison:
https://www.dulcesystems.com/html/prodqperfmap.htmlIt is based on our PRO DQ a SATA PCI-e based RAID, the map shows from empty to full and all major RAID levels. Tested on Mac Pro and KONA 3. Very fast and it’s based on 8 drives only.
The other end of the spectrume is a 4 drive setup, the Quad:
https://www.dulcesystems.com/html/quadperf.html#MAPStill respectable on just four drives and in RAID 5 protected mode too.
Your setup with 7 drives as one RAID 5 connected to a computer with a 2Gb Fibre connection would max out at a theoretical maximum of 200MB/s or so, in real life it would be 20% less then that or more. So the numbers looks a little slow and could be due to older technology on the XRAID as Bob Z had mentioned. Oh, the brand of drives contributes to this too.

[Lee McEachern] “Dulce Pro DQ and it is SATA. I guess SAS is the latest”
Hi Lee, our PRO DQ uses SATA drives which is the best option for most “bang for your buck” as others have noted already.
The interface we use is also referred to as the mini-SAS which is a metal clip locking construction. This, of course, works with the SATA drives.
Please allow our sales team to work out a good cost effective solution for you. Drop us an email or call.
Happy and prosperous 2008 to all.

[Shane Ross] “The Dulce uses an ATTO card. Good cards, but I am a big fan of SINGLE VENDOR solutions…meaning if something doesn’t work, you’ve got one guy to call. Too much finger pointing”
Hi Shane, a small clarification. Dulce does not use the ATTO card, our card actually has some additional benificial feature that is important on a RAID setup.
Also, Dulce support the entire system we provide; RAID controller, drives, enclosure, cables, etc…. Any issues with the array, just one call to Dulce for support.
We have a PRO DQ ready for your testing when you are ready, I think you will like the VERY FAST performance.
