    Hi David,

    hope my solution helps.

    In After Effects.

    – Put your lower third titel in a comp with same dimensions as the avid project is.

    – render out this comp as RGB + Alpha Quicktime uncompressed
(codec Apple none). Be sure you render out the Alphachannel as straight (direct) not as premultiplied (indirect). Fieldorder progressive

The Quicktime would looks terrible and completly distorted at first, but ignore this. Than go back to Composer.

Check following import tabs to activate:

    – non interlaced
    – RGB Colorspace
    – Alpha inverted

Now the Composer handle your progrssive animation to a right interlaced footage, with a briliance and sharp alphamatte.

    Hope this helps.

    Best regards

    1. Export “Same as Source” don`t work with XDcam EX footage.

    2. Tried to export my HD timeline as Qt with DNxHD185x codec. Than I imported that into an ordinary PAL project. The result was the same like doing a transcode or videomixdown to SD resolution. The hole sharpness fly away.

    3. Tried an export from my HD Timeline (projectformat was 1920×1080) to an uncompressed QT with a SD resolution (720×576). Result = perfect. Sharpness, highlights and brilliance like the HD footage only smaller.

Hope somebody can help my experience.

Seems I must find a workaround with my Blackmagic Card.

DPI is meaningless in video. No time to discuss fully this. It`s another chapter and belongs not to the thread.

    Thanks for sharing experience.

    @Shane,

understanding your point, theoretical this is a possible solution. But practical think about this:

    1. Take a hardware based downsizing via HDcam deck or blackmagic cards
you get a SD result looking like the HD footage.

    2. Take an ordinary photography size it down via photoshop or something like, you will not lose any detail.

HD has 1920 x 1080 pixel at 72dpi SD 720 x 576 at 72 dpi. The Resolution is the same only the “face” is bigger.

    Hi Folks,

think it`s time for me to break down a wall for Avid.
My Opinion, it don`t exist the only one perfect system, and it will never be…
Think this article from Oliver Peters very interesting.

    https://digitalfilms.wordpress.com/2009/01/11/improving-fcp-and-media-composer/

He works on both systems and and bring up a summary of advantages and disadvantages from Avid and FCP.
I know the problems from Avid and learned to handle it. Amazing for me, how many problems FCP has inside and no one of FCP users is talking about it. For a complete MAC you have to pay a lot, may be this is the reason for this. A friend of me always say: MAC user are no user, they are believer.

I mean gammashifts, uncorrected framehandling at tapeplayouts are problems for consumer products but not for professional ones.

Things I love on working with Avid:
    – Mediamanagement – share data between projects and systems with one click, also over networks
    – working with hd and sd in one timeline with native material for xdcam ex, p2, hdcam, xdcam hd, hdv, what you want all stay native.
    – change rastertyps or downconversion for hd material
    – the kind of working in the timeline to arrange and rearrange the material
    – realtime colorcorrection and timewarps
    – DNxHD codec technology very smart for postproduction

    @ Stephen Smith
You must took a look at a wrong webpage. The Avid community and knowledgebase has millions of threads.

So only a few things from my expierence. And sorry for my bad English.

    Hi John,

hope my English is good enough, to understand your problem.

    – You don`t want to rebatch or reimport your hole material, only the clips you edit in the sequence.

I`am not realy shure, if that works, but try it.

    Check out the “decompose” function.

Select your Sequence, right click -> decompose. This function will create new seperate footageclips out of your cutted sequence.
The new footageclips have the timecodeinformation of the original matrial. Then you can batchimport. I don`t if it works so with material from XDcam imports. With old tapes it did.

You can also try to select your sequence and make direct an batch import. Avid should only import the length of your cutted clips. In the import dialog you can select a new resolution.

    Hope this will help.

    Regards

    Robert
