  • Is there a command that will CLEAN a SEQUENCE

Posted by Hugh Haynie on January 7, 2009 at 5:09 pm

    I’m editing in MC 3.0
My project uses four XDcam sources which are in sync with t.c.,
and I layer them in the sequence, and do my first edits at low res.

Before going importing again at hi res, I want to consolidate my sequence (not the media files) so that there are no over lapping, unused clips (video only) in the sequnce before I re-import at hi-res. Why? i share drives in a unity system with 7+ producers and editors.

I do not want a videomixdown, as that will eliminate my original clip’s timecode and data for re-importing.

Is there a function in MC that will clean the sequence?

I’ve been wondering the same thing from time to time for similar situations. At least, I think I know what you mean, having any shot on V2 or higher replace any shot on a lower layer.
I’m pretty sure there’s no such command, though.

Why are you not using the Group Clip (multicam) function for this purpose instead of the layering??

each imported clip is usually 70 to 85 min.. x 4 so it’s a lot of video.

would group clip save me time?

i’ve never used it. please enlighten me..

YES. Its basically what they are for, and they are routinely used everyday for shows with longer durations and number of angles. You switch between each imported clip and only the one you want is in the timeline. Nothing to clean up later.

    i’m going to try tomorrow.
i talked to my editor about it..
the only hang up: we revise these timelines a lot.

    thanks!

No problem, you can revise all you want. All the angles are available and can be changed at any time, even though only one track is used in the timeline.

Read up on it in Media Composer Help.

    Hi John,

hope my English is good enough, to understand your problem.

    – You don`t want to rebatch or reimport your hole material, only the clips you edit in the sequence.

I`am not realy shure, if that works, but try it.

    Check out the “decompose” function.

Select your Sequence, right click -> decompose. This function will create new seperate footageclips out of your cutted sequence.
The new footageclips have the timecodeinformation of the original matrial. Then you can batchimport. I don`t if it works so with material from XDcam imports. With old tapes it did.

You can also try to select your sequence and make direct an batch import. Avid should only import the length of your cutted clips. In the import dialog you can select a new resolution.

    Hope this will help.

    Regards

    Robert
