I have many comments about this thread! First of all I have successfully installed Vegas 10d on xp 64 bit. I’ll tell you how later. But what really irks me about Sony, is that I bought Sound Forge 10. The A and B versions installed on xp 64 bit, but the the C update did not. Now I can understand that the new Vegas 10 did not support the old 64 bit xp, but how can they stop support of a product I bought, in mid stream? So from now on, I won’t be buying anymore Sony products. And XP 64 bit is so much better than Vista and 7, which are bloated eye candy operating systems. Yes they can be tweaked to be a lot like xp, but they they can never beat xp 64 bit. I could go into great detail on this, but I’ll leave that for another time. But let me say one thing that makes windows 7 unusable. That is the search function. Even with every registry tweak and the included search adjustments, it will never find certain files., because they are in the wrong locations or super hidden files. If you can’t trust a search, what good is it? Basically what’s wrong with vista and 7 is it’s functionality/user adjustments are taken away by Microsoft. They will decide what you want!. Now back to the way I got Vegas 10d and Sound Forge 10C in 64 bit XP. I loaded a fresh 64 bit Windows 7. I installed 10d vegas and Sound Forge 10C. I then installed PCmover pro. This programs function is to migrate programs from an old operating system, like xp, to a newer one, like vista or 7. It takes the program file stuff, along with the registry entries and puts them on another computer, so you don’t have to reload them. So I did everything backwards. When it asked for the old computer programs I wanted to move, I was using the windows 7 computer. I took only Vegas 10d and Sound Forge 10c, from the old computer[windows 7 one]. Take no other files/programs. So I unchecked every other program/files in the settings of PCmover and made a file called the “moving van” file. You can put this on a flash drive. This file has the 10d and sf 10c info on it. Now I went to my XP 64 bit computer, with no Sony products on it. Make sure all your drivers for that computer are installed.i.e. sound/video etc. This was the so called new computer,i.e. the computer I was upgrading to. But of course, I’m doing it backwards. So, I installed PCmoving pro. Then, when you start the program, it asks for the “moving van” file. I grabbed it right off my flash drive and after a reboot, vegas 10d and sound forge 10c worked flawlessly. They even remained registered.. The only oddity that occurred ,by merging the 2 operating systems, was that in the control panel of Windows, I lost the system ,add/remove programs and a few other icons/categories. But I fixed them with a simple registry tweak.. The CPL files were still in the System 32 folder and started fine, but had been hidden in the control panel. This may not happen on your computer. I have used the XP64 bit operating system for several days, and everything is working great.
