Thanks for all of the suggestions. Went with the 2.5ghz with 4gb of Ram and the non-glare screen. Ok, time to start editing…
    thanks again!

Thanks a lot guys. One more thing; do you feel that the solid state drives are worth the additional cost? It’s a big difference in price and space, but seems to have a big reliability factor.

Thanks for the reply. I actually have another question, after doing some research: will I be able to install FCP7 on a new Mac that comes with Lion?

Hi Chris, I’m configuring a system as well and got some great suggestions here on Creative Cow, one of them being a Kona card. I noticed your post said the Kona-LHe can be found for under $1000 here in the US. Any idea where? The lowest price I found was around $1400.
Thanks in advance for your time!

    Great advice Gary! Thank you.
So is there a particular Kona card that will work best with FCP? How do the Kona cards differ from the Matrox solutions that Tom mentioned in his post? Most of our HD work is shot on P2 cards or the Firestore, so I’m not sure what kind of deck interface I need. I guess it wouldn’t hurt to have options for future needs though.
    Thanks again!

Thanks for the info. I’ve been reading it and researching some more and it looks like I’ll place my order tomorrow.
One more quick question: If I want to show my clients the product in HD playing off of the FCP timeline, do I pick up a Black Magic or AJA card, or should I just use the DVI output and convert it to HDMI? I’m not sure if the cards have any quality advantage.
Thanks again for the very useful information!

December 1, 2007 at 12:16 am in reply to: MXF vs. QT

I hadn’t tried viewing it thru FCP, which was probably dumb on my part, BUT I did try it this afternoon and it still looked a little like 24P, or maybe a little smoother, like 30P. The strange thing is that I viewed the playback today from the Firestore, thru the camera, playing back the same clips onto an 8″ field monitor on location. The images (and pans) were beautiful. Now I know that the smaller screen is deceiving, but this was really perfect.
So my next experiment is to connect the composite camera output to the large LCD and see what it delivers.
Now I have to confess that the footage I viewed on FCP was footage that I backed up to an eSata drive. Maybe that’s having a problem keeping up with the bandwidth of the HD footage, although i really doesn’t “look” like a hard drive speed issue.
I’ll post my results, but any suggestions would be appreciated.

    Thanks again,
    Robert

    Well that’s very helpful-thank you.
So is there any difference in the quality of each? I’ve been finding that in a project I just started, I recording in th QT setting and it looked great (very smooth) in 1080_60i playback on the camera, but a little 24P-like when watching via QT player on the MAC on both the computer screen as well as via dvi output to 26″ HD LCD tv/monitor. Is it just the video card in my fairly new macbook pro, or did the quality change somewhere along the way?
Sorry, this is all so new for me.

    Thanks again!

Thanks for the suggestion. I can’t believe how slow the information is coming out for their new update (version 4). It seems that there’s not a clear set up guide for this version and it’s new functions. The addendum doesn’t really cut it, unfortunately. You would think that a company that sells an expensive product would support it so the user can work it properly. Their website is useless for this purpose. I hope I can post some useful info once I use it a few times.
    Thanks again.

    Thanks for you reply.
I tried both with and without OIS on.
Could it have something to do with the camera settings, like syncro-scan and that type of thing?
