[Gary Huff] “Most “tech support” issues I run into involve either a dead hard drive or someone who just doesn’t know how to do simple tasks.”

Yeah I kind of enjoy building my own system as masochistic as that can be. But yeah the number of problems usually isn’t that high anymore. Bad HD, bad power supply, or if something is really odd for software and nothing you try fixes it, start from scratch with your OS. Those probably fix at least 90% of the problems I’ve seen. Only had one or two circuit board type failures in all of the years I’ve been doing this. Have had some bad ram though which can do some really odd things.

  • [Craig Seeman] “So they “assure” a noted NY Times reporter allowing him to print such but no such assurance to the pros who are waiting. Not that such assurance would happen during a keynote but . . . “

Kind of ironic but it seems Apple is no longer concerned about computers. I’m personally not holding my breath to find out what these guys are really going to do. Whatever happens I’m sure I’ll find a way to get things done.

But I wonder what Autodesk is thinking. No matter how they try to play it Smoke on an iMac is a joke. If there ever was a resource hungry app it would be Smoke.

Apple is completely a loose canon at this point. But I for one am not that concerned about it since FCP is not much of a factor anymore and the other options are not bad at all. Will this whole mess start to drive Apple fans to appreciate Bill Gates? Perish the thought.

I don’t know if it’s ever time for that.

[Phil Hoppes] “Done debating this one. The patient is dead…. it just doesn’t know it yet.”

He’s dead Jim. I guess more graceful than a full out EOL but they’ve now established clearly which way they are headed.

June 10, 2012 at 12:16 am in reply to: AJA Support for Adobe CS6!

[AJA Sales Department] “It’s critical that both the System Preferences audio settings and the Premiere Audio Hardware preference not be set to “AJA”. If either is set to AJA hardware, drop outs and distorted audio will result. “

I hope this is a temporary situation. If the system audio cannot be set to AJA, how are we supposed to hear audio when not using Premiere? It’s not practical for my setup to mix 2 separate outputs together.

[Jim Wiseman] “Apple Insider, MacRumors, and 9to5Mac are all calling for the update to the Mac Pro next week at Worldwide Developers Conference. Model numbers and prices (AU) have leaked. One is to have server functionality. Check out: “

I’m guessing they will have 13 cores. I mean they already did 12.

[Jim Watt] “They had no suggestions on what was causing the Kernal Panic I was getting while trying to change audio hardware preference and also while in the Mac audio preference going from line input and output to Kona card.

    thx…jw”

What are you getting for Kernal Panic. I’m getting a bunch “Sorry but Premiere has experienced a serious error and must shut down”. I’ve had 6 or 7 of those in the last couple of days. Seemed to start after I added a noise reduction plugin. Don’t know if that means anything.

[Chris Harlan] “Nope. I think I just learned how to do it by reading the cow, while letting others bleed their knuckles for me.”

Sounds interesting but I’m out of slots. Maybe if Tim could kick his brother in law the next time he sees him if he reads this.
