January 18, 2014 at 4:54 pm in reply to: XML Import problems between Final Cut Pro X and DaVinci Resolve 9 LiteThanks for the tip about TextWrangler. I got an email from DaVinci saying they were working on it but could not give an ETA. I don’t think it will ever work. I shot raw on Blackmagic. I made proxy files thru Resolve that I could edit with FCPX. 118 clips total with 118 sound clips with a Zoom H4N. I synched those and so FCPX creates 118 new clips in the event folder. Resolve has to have the files imported to know what the XML is referring to but those clips don’t exist in raw form. They only exist in proxy form as created by FCPX. FCPX knows it is referring to the original proxy clip but this seems to confuse Resolve. Some of the compound clips didn’t work either.
And I’d like to say a word about the gentleman who stated it was irresponsible to update in the middle of the project. I have , at any given moment, about a half dozen customers with a dozen or more projects at various stages of completion. I can’t afford to stop all new work, finish all old work, update, then start new jobs again. That would leave an income gap that my finances can’t handle. So I back up with Time Machine and hope for the best.

January 15, 2014 at 9:06 pm in reply to: XML Import problems between Final Cut Pro X and DaVinci Resolve 9 LiteProblem has started all over again. The latest version of FCP outputs XML in version 1.3 My full copy of Resolve with latest updates says it only supports 1.2 I’ve got a very complicated timeline that I really don’t want to color correct all the footage and then recreate my edits.

And now happily, this is fixed in 10.1 with the Snapshot command!

You are right, I usually check for updates regularly. The P2 Status Logger is supposed to keep track of your assets and let you know that there are updates. I would get periodic emails about things, such as an AVCHD reader, and a recover utility, but it never notified me of a firmware update. I switched over to a Mac about a year ago and forgot I had that logger on a PC. I didn’t know anything was wrong until I couldn’t use class 10 cards. Panasonic has some of the worst technical support I have seen. There is no information about this on US servers that I could find. I had to log on to the Japanese site to find out there was a firmware update. Maybe because the 150 is obsolete and has been replaced with the 130 and 160 (according to my local dealer.)

Here’s the answer to this question. Anyone owning any of the Panasonic professional cameras can benefit from this. You need to manage your camera with the P2 Asset Support System called PASS. This P2 software handles AVCHD cameras as well. You log on to the Panasonic site in Japan (not here), create an account, then register your camera. This will get you emailed updates as to any changes. Then, download the P2 software and finally the 1.21 firmware update. Follow the instructions. The killer for me is that this cannot be done by battery, you must use the a/c adapter which I lost long ago. Anyway…..here’s the link:

Chris – ME TOO! I’ve got several class 10 cards that my producer told me to use and I can’t. I’ve looked everywhere for the firmware and can’t find it.

Timothy,
Of course you can place music separately, or any audio such as interviews for that matter. Simply place the playhead where you want the slug on the video line and dit or Option-W. Then place the audio below that gap. A vast majority of the complaints about what FCPX can’t do are wrong, it’s just done differently. I’m a long time FCP user from the very beginning. I approached X considering it to be a completely different product from XYZ company. I took training starting at the beginning, and didn’t try to do anything I hadn’t been taught. Before long I was saying “Wow” or “That’s cool!” It’s really amazing and because I am an independent editor and don’t need a server version it meets my needs. I took a FCP7 project that took 2 hours to complete and finished it in 35 minutes in X. It’s not perfect by any stretch but it really is much more than iMovie Pro. -
Mark,
Mine does that too, but sadly rebooting and restarting didn’t fix it. List view works fine until I try to rearrange columns then BAM! They won’t rearrange and now the clips don’t change in the viewer as I try to select different ones – just like your description. Any help from someone would really be appreciated. -
OK, so there’s this episode of Dexter’s Laboratory where he tells DeeDee “you are stupid, you are stupid, and don’t forget….you are stupid.” I found the *user* preferences file, trashed that and all is fine. Wish I could delete the entire thread :O

I’d like to add that I realize I’ve given next to no details. I was just hoping someone has had experiences with either Cuda drivers, or deleting projects and render files which caused issues. I’m going to reboot with command-R and restore to a point several days ago and see what happens.
