Thanks all. I ended up sending to Olof Ekbergh. He fixed the receptacle and added a much stronger base plate cheaper and quicker than Sony would have. Here’s some photos:

Olof: I am indeed out of warranty, my only concern would be resale and not making a modification that would hinder any future repairs needed. But I’d be interested in shipping my camera to you if you think you could attach a better plate that wouldn’t interfere with future repairs. Why don’t you email me at rob@robcollins.net to discuss if you’d entertain the idea. I couldn’t afford for the camera to be away longer than a couple of weeks though. Thanks!

Thanks Bruno. I found this article: https://www.rockhousecinema.com/news/files/432abc5b75996cb1860946d3715ff76b-0.html which is beyond my capabilities, but nothing about a pre-made alternative replacement for the EX1. Can you send a link? Even something I could epoxy to the bottom of the camera? Or is that a bad idea? Would LOVE to avoid an expensive repair right now…

As to why you get an adapter such as the Letus, it’s primarily for shallow depth of field. The chips on cameras like the EX1 or EX3 are not large enough for this. The ground glass in the adapter is quite large, and so your video lens records the image off it almost like a telecine. Simply attaching a 35mm or film lens to the front of the video lens does nothing for you.

Thanks Jeff, will give a try. But I’m guessing it’s something I’m doing or not doing in Encore, since my discs from iDVD and DVDSP work fine in those players.

I’m having the same issues–Encore will make an .iso but won’t burn the disc. Fortunately I’m using a -RE to avoid the expensive coasters. I burned the .iso in Toast but it does not play in Blu-ray set-top (rated at -R and -RE compatible–many aren’t) or PS3. Check out this article from someone who’s made it work: https://www.rcgrabbag.com/?p=565 and my comments at bottom about it not working for me. Frustrating!

Did you get this resolved? I’m considering how to deliver an HD project and have heard mixed things about Encore on Mac.
