Thanks for the explanation of why the older version won’t work on Yosemite. I hadn’t heard it before. Generally it’s the other way around, where software won’t run on older versions of the OS. This time it’s more like the demise of the PowerPC.

  • Argh! I meant Yosemite. Too many names and numbers and I’m getting to old for this.
So that’s what I wanted to be sure of. v10.1.3 can’t go any higher than Mavericks. That was my experience. We have to move everything we have up a level and add Pegasus.
    Thanks

  • So you’re running CatDV 10.1.x on Mac OS 10.9.4? I just want to check before trying again. The last time I put Yosemite on the MacBook Pro CatDV 10.1.3 wouldn’t run.

Ok, I fixed it. But unfortunately I don’t remember how. There was a missing component somewhere.

Assuming that you are using the “path” method for proxies—all you have to do is have identical paths on the drive holding the proxies. If the “masters” are in a new drive with different subdirectories then duplicate the path named on the proxy drive. Then in preferences you can change the location of the proxy drive itself. When the matching proxies are in the similarly named path they’ll link by themselves. This assumes that the file names of the masters haven’t changed.

    He shoots… and scores!

That was it. This machine had only 4 of the Avid codecs on it. No idea why. Ran the same install on all of them. The laptop right next to it was fine but this was missing some. All everywhere matched dates. I copied the missing ones over here and rebooted and yup, it appears to be fixed.

Thanks again. I owe you more than a beer.

I use two external drives attached to my server, for two different levels of “proxies.” One contains the low rez MXF files I’ll use in Media Composer. The other has even smaller .MP4 copies that everyone else will look at. There’s no reason for them to get next the MXF files. Plus I can hand them a handful of MP4s that they can carry around on a portable drive or on their laptop, just to entertain themselves.

    UPDATE:
Got it figured out. It had to do with the way Calibrated dealt with variable bit rate files. My low rez versions were done in SD 20:1 or ProRes Proxy. Something odd about the indexing when using VBR formats. The folks at Calibrated got right on it and sent a patch that fixed it. Since then I’ve render a couple thousand new proxies, all without issue.

how many clips at a time are we talking about? I’m sitting here moving files between catalogs without an issue. I scan one of the numbered folders on one of the Avid media drives, and then add clips into different catalogs for different projects. The initial scan has a few thousand clips, but I’m moving only a few dozen, or a couple hundred at a time, though it’s all without issue.
