    Thanks Brendan.
I must say that it is extremely addictive. And judged by the amount of effects you and Simon generate (and by the time you posted 🙂 ) I can conclude that the same must be true for you as well.
But before I start on something new I will first download the effects you guys posted. I even haven’t had time to do that.
One thing I definitely learned: I am not good in making video tutorials. I tried to do this and ended up with several Gigabytes of utterly useless screen recordings. I decided to make the graphic overview instead.

    Cheers,

Ok, I can’t check right now but I understood from the manual the opt-right bracket would work. Select the clip you would want to extend, park the playhead on the beginning of the next clip and press opt-] but I could have misinterpreted that.

    Hi Mark,

That is certainly something to be aware off. Does the same happen when you use the other trim commands?

    Trim End: Option-Right Bracket (])
Trim the end of the selected or topmost clip to the skimmer or playhead position

    Trim Start: Option-Left Bracket ([)
Trim the clip start point to the skimmer or playhead position

    Trim to Selection: Option-Backslash ()
Trim clip start and end points to the range selection

July 30, 2011 at 12:45 pm in reply to: What to use rigging for?

    Hi Jay,

I used rigging in the Classic SLR effect I posted on the FCPX Techniques forum: https://forums.creativecow.net/readpost/344/1806
When you adjust the focus slider which is part of the rig, you can several parameters at the same time with only one slider.
So pulling the focus slider to the left or to the right causes the underlying image that is covered by the groundglass to become blurred. At the same time the outer ring in the middle shows darker and lighter triangles but remains sharp and the two half circles in the middle move opposite of eachother and get darker on one side.
All of this is done by adding the individual controls for all these parameters to the same rig slider and then set up the snapshots for the slider states.
If you download the effect and open it in Motion 5 you can easily deconstruct the inner workings.

    Workaround:
Use the blade tool to split the clip. Apply the color correction you want to the first part of the clip. Aply another color correction to the second part of the clip. Apply a cross dissolve between the two parts and adjust the length of the dissolve to taste.

  • Hi Brendan,

On my MacBook Pro with Motion 4 I have FX Factory installed but with only some freebies as Fx and some trial versions. On this system no temperature, tint and tone curve.
On my MacPro no FX Factory and also no temperature, tint and tone curve.

  • Hi Leo,

I just checked on my MacPro where I’m running Motion 5.
I do not have the image units Tone Curve, Tint and Temperature in my collection of image units.

  • You could also place a 1 sec color solid at the start, add a 26:46 slug to the start of the 1 sec color solid as connected clip. Turn this slug into a secondary storyline and after that you add another 1 sec color slug to the end of that secondary storyline. You can now start editing your clips as a primary storyline starting from 1 sec (the end of the first color solid) to 27:46 (the end of the last color solid). When ready just delete the first color solid and the connected secondary storyline is deleted with it. The primary storyline will ripple back to the start of the timeline.

    Hi Leo,

Tomorrow afternoon I am back behind my MacPro with Motion 5 again and than I will check if they work. I know for sure that “Affine Transform” works, because I’ve used that one. I need a new MacBook Pro because the 2006 model is not compatible with M5 and FCPX so I can’t check for you right now.

    Cheers,
    Robbert-Jan
