That’s quite possibly it. I was going to rebuild all the computers over the summer break, but just as I was getting started, both Lion and FCPX’s releases were imminent, so I held off. Turned out Lion released too close to our start for me to be comfortable deploying it and FCPX is, well…probably not going to be deployed here in its current state. End result, I didn’t get my systems cleaned up like I was planning, so this one’s sitting on I think 2 years since its last clean install.
I’ve got a couple fresh installs done so I’ll move the drive over there and check it out. Thankfully, though, it doesn’t appear to have affected the export to dvd.
Thanks. -
It is formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled). Fairly sure it’s RAID 0 (that’s how it was advertised as default config’d from otherworld), but not 100% sure how to verify that easily. Have also noticed other “normal” things being slow that are more system related, such as folder windows in Finder taking a while to open occasionally, so not sure if there’s not something deeper going on on the iMac that could be causing issues.
The audio seems in sync if FCP is the first thing I open after a restart, but after a few operations, or jumping to Finder to look for something, etc, it looks like a foreign film.

I moved back to the G4 and the dedicated Firewire card, but still have the same results. Guess I’ll have to contact AJA, but there’s probably not much they can do (without notable expense) since I’ve had it for quite some time.
-
So would you suggest I move the AJA back to my G4 Mirrored Drive Door? OS would be 10.5.8 with FCP 4.5. It also has a separate Firewire PCI card, although I still wouldn’t have any other Firewire devices attached.
-
I’m capturing to a network drive (via gigabit ethernet), but had the same results trying to capture to the internal drive. The only firewire attached is the AJA. Are you saying the iMacs aren’t innately powerful enough to operate the AJA?

Permissions for specific programs. Both in the applications section and the utilities section. For example, I’ll have several applications checked for access and most others (like sys prefs, etc) unchecked and one utility (MIDI setup) checked with the others unchecked. Many of the ones I have checked will become unchecked and ones I have unchecked will become checked. It seems to vary exactly which ones get changed, but often the first half or so of the applications will become all checked and everything else is unchecked. In the instance that it reset every time I closed the window, it was just the few I checked that got reverted to unchecked (however, a restart seemed to fix this specific case and I was able to make changes correctly after restarting).
-
Yeah, I’ve been looking at that already. However, these permissions are resetting while I’m STILL at the computer. I close the permissions window and reopen it, and they’re reset… 😐

I’m assuming the cloning would reset all the computer names to the same thing as well, or would it somehow retain the current name?
Also, I have two programs (ProTools and Finale) that have machine-specific registration codes. I’m guessing I’d have to deauthorize the software before re-imaging and then reauthorize it on each machine? Easy enough with Finale if I remember to do it, but ProTools can be a bear to configure.
I’m thinking it wouldn’t be an issue with Deep Freeze on each computer (unless I misunderstand how it works), but it may cause me some real problems with an initial standardization cloning and in the event of needing to completely reclone them in the future, right?
-
Thanks. Deep Freeze looks like it will solve a lot of my problems. I already have a student only account (and routinely clean the desktops of extra files, so they already know not to save personal items to the computers), but perhaps I didn’t have everything locked and there’s a few things (in Safari, namely) that I don’t think I can lock.
Last question, how exactly do I make a master image and can this be stored and cloned from my Remote Desktop server computer?
Thanks,

No, the audio has never worked. We just got it and this is the only application we’ve tried with it. We do not use a reference. It’s set for non-controllable device (video input into the LA is coming directly from a switcher and audio directly from a sound console). I have not downloaded the latest firmware…I’ll check for that. The lights do correspond correctly, but unfortunately, it doesn’t have any audio indicators. Not 100% on the audio cables being the correct ones, but they are female XLR which corresponds to my male XLR main outs of my console, so I’m assuming this is by design. The breakout cable would appear to be fully plugged in–XLR’s are clicked fully into the console and the other end seems screwed tightly into the LA.
