Not sure if it’s exactly what you’re looking for, but I’m using a free plugin from Eureka called Vapor Across that overexposes and blooms out the colors while transitioning to the next clip. It does some blurring as well. Might be a bit extreme for what you’re wanting, but I use it a lot for little sports promos and the like I do. Besides, it’s free and a cool plugin so you can’t go wrong pikcing it up, anyway. Forget where I got it, but I’m sure it will come up in a quick search (I think I used versiontracker to get it).

November 1, 2005 at 11:24 pm in reply to: AJA LA audio problem into FCP

I changed it since I thought FCP worked exclusively in 720×480 for standard def video. Since this is all I’ve ever done in the past, my viewpoint is admittedly limited. I assume I would need to change the sequence settings and such as well?

But, assuming this is not the problem (seems like I’d notice at least some sort of a video issue and not only audio), any other possibilities? The audio settings in the capture window are indeed set to Channels 1&2. Incidently, I’m still on FCP4.5, but the Log & Capture window does have that feature also. I had originally thought this might have been the problem as well, so it was the first thing I checked. Although, usually even if that’s set to Video Only, I still get audio levels in the meter before recording…
    Thanks again.

Can’t be done within FCP. However, I’m not sure if Soundtrack has more control (I’ve only used it a couple times). If it has more precise control, you can export your audio into that program, do your tweaks, and reimport into FCP. Of course, you could do the same with any actual audio editing program you may have, but Soundtrack seems to be a more seemless option.

September 23, 2005 at 3:57 pm in reply to: MiniDV problem–lost footage

Those were my initial thoughts as well, but thought someone might have more experience/knowledge with this possibility.

Now, here’s the funny conclusion. Upon further “interogation” of the student, it turns out he seemed to have a misunderstanding of the question, “Did YOU actually watch these scenes and saw the footage?”. He finally told me that he had actually never seen the footage in question, BUT he “was just a few feet away when [his actors] were watching it”. 😐 I called the actors and they can’t remember that specific footage either.

So, I’m thinking it is a problem with the camera. He can’t remember exactly which camera he took (we have a few DVC7s) and we’ve been having intermittent problems with one of them. I’m thinking he hit record and the camera said it was recording, when it fact it wasn’t. Either that, or the tape was inadvertantly fast forwarded before they started shooting and he never actually hit record for the first scene…

    Anyway, thanks for the reply.
