Importing actually has proven to be a good idea for us – it serves as a visual placeholder for us to later go in and add the P&Z effect and work as you indicate, also it allows you to remember or see which still to access when adding the effect.
Two things here, when you add the effect, change your view within the effect from source to target so you can see the moves or keyframes you are adding and working with.
The second issue, much more critical, is the flaw in this effect since MC version 6 – the effect is tenuous at best – it seems to be memory related. The app will quit working and/or you cannot see what you are doing as you work. Things that help with this is quitting the app and/or sometimes rebooting the entire system and only working with these effects, always rendering and/or saving after every move. The best we have been able to accomplish is to get through 3 or 4 images before the system crashes or quits working. Our system is Win 7 with dual hex-core processors, 3Ghz, 12 GB-RAM. This is indeed an Avid MC flaw as we worked with this effect flawlessly in earlier versions. We now mostly resort to Adobe AE for still moves …. also there are 3rd party plugins that can be used within the app that do not crash the system.

What is the pixel resolution of the desktop (original Images)?

The 52 sec. Qt needs to be the same length as the 2 and a half minute music (exactly same length to the frame) – accomplish this by looping the video as needed and fading it out somewhere in the 3rd time it loops to match length of music OR loop the 52 sec video twice and freeze the last frame until the length of music is reached. Do this looping/freezing outside of Encore and bring it in as an asset just for the video button.
This is the only option I know of.

on a pc, right click and choose/select “Transcode Settings” – then you should see all of your presets

We have Facilis TerraBlock and are very happy with that. We have 96 TB and we came from a Unity setting. We have 8 Avids, one is MAC. Best of all is the product support – they are absolutely there when/if you ever have issues or questions.

Shoot HD if you will ever need the footage later for any other reason – you can always down-convert and center-cut. If it is one time use only for specific purpose just go SD and save some space and a little time.

I suspected FCP was involved – it has been a thorn in my flesh for years now. We have a MAC with both FCP 7 and Avid MC installed but it seems easier at this point to use computer with Calibrated installed. Yet another update to our tech. specs when working with freelance crews – please do not use FCP, just give us the RAW.

Again, it is not a “DVD” frame rate – it is a video or an asset frame rate.

I have of course heard of motion blur – just not in the transcode setting for DVD. I know they exist everywhere else in basically all edit systems, Adobe AE … etc. Thanks for the info. but I do understand about the human eye and television. 🙂
You do not go to project settings. Inside Encore, you go to File drop down menu and “Edit quality settings” or right click on the asset in Encore and select “Transcode Settings” and in the dialogue that opens there is an “Edit Quality Presets”
