The deck was provided to us and was set at 720p. IT also shows that setting on the home screen, Are you thinking it is doing some sort of conversion?…How would you confirm it is actually outputting 59.94.?

Thanks..I am 90% convinced about getting the Firmtek raid. So let me ask you a possibly stupid question. If you stock a 4 or 5 bay unit with only 2 or 3 drives to start…and you add the rest of the drives a little later, do they automatically join the existing RAID?..or do you have to manually incorporate them?…and if so, what is the software you used to create the RAID..is is the basic Apple Raid setup?

    Thanks again for your input

yeah..all good points to be sure…also I think I typo’d the data rate..it’s actually around 14MB/sec. Do you have any experience with the Hitachi Drives?..I am reading that they are the preferred vendor with the Firmtek unit.

I would disagree with your definition of the word “fun”..but I will try it when I get some downtime.

I feel your pain..I am also seeing artifacts, etc on a Sharp Aquos..but when I view the same DVD on a good SD monitor it’s fine. (Letterboxed 4×3, not upscaled) And I tried it on a new Westinghouse HD and although better, was not perfect. I am sure it has to do with the upscaling limitations of the monitor

Pro-Res…I did read up on the threads before starting…and thru the Flanders monitor the images are gorgeous..and even when I watch a down-converted feed from the LHi to an SD monitor it still looks great.

I was using the 6.2 average rate associated with the 2-pass VBR

I normally do use a self-contained movie, but in the interests of time I was doing a reference movie.
You are right, however..in that viewing on an SD monitor is an improvement
