I’m also retired but I shoot two pretty darn good ballets and a couple of other things each year. I helped shoot a full length movie earlier which was a learning experience. For that I used a Canon C100 with a Ninja Blade. My partner and I have always wanted to shoot the ballet in 4K. He’s still working so he plunged into the Sony/Ninja world ahead of me. I had to follow. He’s a bad influence.

Thanks for the response. Still not convinced I need to upgrade Vegas. I may be too old to take on the Premier learning curve but I do have enough time….I think.

    Hi George,
I have a GH4 too and love it. Never thought about connecting it to the Ninja. That could be done. I used the GH4 to record stage performances. It doesn’t work that well in low light. Ah me. So I bought the A7iii. It has limits too I’m finding. If I saved my money long enough I might have been able to buy super duper camera. But then I’d be out of work.
    Thanks for your comments,
    Rick

I’m using the Sony A7iii. Do you know something about this camera? I have a question about it too. There is a menu option for HDMI output to connect with the Ninja Flame. The highest resolution option is 2160/1080p – not 3840/2160. I’m thinking it doesn’t output UHD.

So I’ve decided to buy the upgrade today. The advertised price was $249. BUT when I got to checkout it was suddenly $599. Gack. what is this? so thinking I must have done something wrong I went back out and started over again. This time it was $299 which of course is $50 more than advertised. I stopped trying. Not sure what this is all about but make me think I’ should take my chances with Premier. Not an Adobe fan – yet.

    OK,
I’m not very good at explaining myself I guess. I don’t use 3D

what I was trying to say is – there is no indication in “properties”that the recording is recognized as 10-bit.

I just below ‘Stereoscopic 3D mode’ and above ‘Pixel format’, There is no line. There is nothing other than the reference made to some 3D settings. I don’t have a clue how to use 3D either but there are those who do.

    Thanks George.
That explains 8 vs 32-bit. But there is a problem:

just below ‘Stereoscopic 3D mode’ and above ‘Pixel format’, is a line that is entirely grayed out.
I selected “3D mode” and the line says something about crosstalk cancellation. I’m thinking there’s no 10-bit selection in Vegas Pro v.12

I’m using Vegas 12 at this point wondering if the upgrade is worth it.

When I load a file created as a 10-bit ProRes 4:2:2 file on the Ninja Flame, I load it to the timeline – Vegas asks if I want to set the project to this file’s properties. I say yes and then check properties. It says its a 8-bit file. There is no selection for 10-bit. Only 8 and 32-bit. So that’s what I’m thinking. I’m not sure if the upgrade changes this or not.

Jumping into the deeper end I’m now recording to a Ninja Flame in 10-bit 4:2:2 ProRes. Sony Vegas 12 says it’s 8-bit. It recognizes it at 8-bit. Hmmm. How do I move on from here? Upgrade? download something? or give up on Vegas all together? I’d hate to do the later.
