I started shooting stills with Nikons in 1970, so I have a great collection of glass (almost sold it on Ebay a year ago) that works perfect on my AF100. See https://vimeo.com/24837491 300mm Nikkor f4, and https://vimeo.com/24138478 with a 55mm Micro Nikkor that I thought I’d never use again. Things always come back in style. Maybe the bellbottoms in my closet might fit! rg

I had a similar “lost frames in broken long clip” thing myself and was told that I needed to leave the files in their associated folders and access them via Media Browser in Premiere. Being a lazy, old dog, I tend to rip and rename the clips for future use so I don’t have 50 0001.mts files in my system to try and re-associate with a project 5 years from now. Don’t worry about timecode for the most part. But next time a shoot a long talking head that I know will split at 22 minutes, I’ll leave that in it’s file structure until edited. This file-based workflow has been interesting. rg

I know AVCHD is said to be more processor intensive than HDV. More thoughts? thanks, rg

It was a bit rough, maybe 5-10 frames. Fixed the first one by removing an adjective or two and a mini-dissolve. Hope the others are cleaner cuts.

found my own answer in a forum:
1) If your card doesn’t already have this directory, create it:
\PRIVATE\MEIGROUP\PAVCN\SBG\P2SD2) Open a new text file and paste this in:
[MetaData]
MetaName=Test Meta Name
UserClipName=Test Clip Name
Creator=Test Creator
LastUpdatePerson=Test Updater
Shooter=Test Shooter
PlaceName=Test Location
[Scenario]
ProgramName=Test Program Name
SceneNo=1
TakeNo=1
[News]
Reporter=Test Reporter
Purpose=Test Purpose
Object=Test Object
[Memo]
Offset=0
Person=Test Memo Creator
Text=Test Text Memo3) Edit the contents as needed. You only need to keep the lines that you need. Above is a file that came from the editor with every field filled out. You might even be able to put your own in there. I usually only use these:
[MetaData]
MetaName=
UserClipName=
Creator=
PlaceName=4) Save file with a name of MTDT00.P2 through MTDT09.P2 (10 possibilities) in the directory mentioned in step 1.
5) Load on camera. Try to remember which one you need since it only lists them by filename. You have to load them one by one and then view the info just to see which is which on camera.

Mike,
Don’t feel too bad, I do that every other day!!Too much software, not enough brain, here.

Only thing I’m finding is the need for Premiere to go back through and re-index every shot.
With the first project I re-opened with 4.1, it did seem better by not needing to re-scan every clip in a large bin when you come back from sequence. that drove me nuts.
Re-indexing this project is taking over an hour. But, should be worth it (I hope, I hope!!).rg

Tim,
What does “exporting XML data” with the file give you? And I agree, seems like he had a lot of other sludge in the pipe on that machine. I’m just anxiously awaiting 4.1 upgrade to help speed up my epic-size projects.rg

Update, the ver 7.1 drivers seem to get it running. But see post below about audio. I did find the other problem “export to tape” that I had. That problem was ME! rg

Apologize for the quick-fire complaint on the “export-to-tape” problem. It was operator failure, did not check the Device Control preference menu first. So I may re-install BM Decklink, yet again.
Smiling a bit now (as much as I can having just sent a 3TB RAID out for recovery). Send booze.
