April 20, 2017 at 8:48 pm in reply to: Adjust clip gain or clip volume during FCPX edit, if ultimately mixing audio in Audition (or other DAW)?I typically do all of my volume adjustments directly on the clips dragging the control over the waveform. However, I always reset all the audio levels to 0db before exporting role-based stems for import into Audition. My preference is to have a clean slate when I start my audio mixing.
Having said that, with FCPX 10.3, the application has finally matured to the point that I could probably do 90% of the work I used to have to do in Audition. There are still some missing pieces like a mixer (what can I say, I’m old school), the ability to sidechain compression, and more granular controls for noise reduction. One of these days, I might get around to actually doing a complete mix in FCPX.

We’ve been using Trello for a couple of years. It’s a free tool (premium features are available but we’ve never needed them) that allows you to create and assign tasks. It’s a life saver on our bigger projects with multiple editors.

Thanks for the reply Noah. I cycled through all the available resolutions for my monitor, and the timecode is still truncated. Just for grins and giggles, I also fired up the project on my Macbook Pro and got the same results. It’s certainly not a show stopper, but it is a bit of an annoyance trying to match frame the source footage for the camera media.

We shoot almost everything in-house. We have a mix of Panasonic AVC-HD cameras (AC160A, HMC150s), a few GoPros and a Canon DSLR (T4i). We do a ton of multicam, and typically edit in ProRes. We get the occasional iPhone or MP4 footage from a client, and we’ll transcode that to keep everything consistent within the project. We’re a production company with 2 editors, and a number of contract camera operators.

I know what you mean Jeff. About 3 years ago, we went to a new media retention policy and I dumped raw footage going back to 1997. It was pretty painful to toss hundreds of tapes that represented my entire career in the video industry. We arrived at 1 year as a sensible policy based on a couple of factors.
I have had several graduating seniors come back to me and ask for specialty edits of their performances that they can submit with their scholarship applications. We run a minimum of 3 cameras, so I’m almost always able to focus on them during a particular number. We’ve also been asked a numerous occasions to create promo reels for our studios, and it’s nice to have the raw footage to go back to.

We keep raw footage for up to one year after the recital. We also retain the ProRes master of the program, as well as DVD and Blu-ray images indefinitely.

I have two of these and they are great as long as you don’t need to move around. With the center column, you can get up to almost 90″, which is more than enough to get you over the crowds.

I use Encore on my MacBook Pro running Yosemite with no issues. I never could get Premiere CC 2014 to run for more than 5 minutes without crashing, so beware of that.

I had a similar issue with my 8050 right after I configured the drives and was starting to load data. After rebooting the system, the 8050 came right up, so I just assumed it was settling in. Did Areca offer you any insight into what was going on?

August 22, 2014 at 2:55 pm in reply to: Premiere CC 2014 crashes every 30 minutes or so on new Mac ProSame issues here. I’ve actually abandoned CC 2014 until Adobe can fix these problems. Premiere is completely unstable on my MacPro, and I can’t risk missing deadlines. I don’t have any issues with FCPX, Motion or Compressor, and even After Effects 2014 works just fine.
