Yeah, I was concerned that my hardware might be a factor. I did upgrade to a Radeon 5770 last year, but I’m sure it’s relatively underpowered for what X needs. I just can’t bring myself to pull the trigger on a tricked out iMac with the MacPro rumors swirling around.

Thanks for the reply Jeremy. Assuming I can find a safe method to transfer my data from the sparse bundle to the FCPX folders on my RAID, I’ll give that a try and see what impact that has. My CPU usage seems to briefly peg one core near 100%, but most of the time FCPX is unresponsive, there appears to be little CPU activity. Unfortunately, the only other hardware I have is an old G5 so I can’t test this on another system.

I shot a half dozen recitals this last spring with the HMC alongside a DVX100A and a Canon A1. The HMC is a couple of stops darker than my DVX, but it was plenty bright for every recital. The A1 was another couple of stops darker than the HMC, but I was able to push the levels in post and it still looked ok.

The colors matched up pretty well between the DVX and the HMC, although I did make some minor color tweaks in post.

I\’m happy enough with the performance of the HMC that I\’m planning to buy 2 more next spring.

I use Log and Transfer to transcode to ProRes, then drop the ProRes 1080i clip into a DV-NTSC Anamorphic sequence. FCP will ask if you want to change the sequence settings. Click “No”, then add the filter if it isn’t already there. I then export the DV-NTSC sequence using Compressor and import the newly created DV file for use in my multiclip.

I had this same issue. My workaround is to drop the footage into a DV NTSC Anamorphic timeline. Then add the “Shift Fields” filter to your clip with the “Shift Direction” setting to +1.
