I can’t believe I can’t find it. Sorry, everyone. It was the darling of Hot Docs in Toronto last year. Basically a camera crew tracked down Michael Moore and used the exact same interrogation and stalking style he uses.

They wanted to challenges a few facts from past MM films.

Anyone who hates MM would probably love it.

In a pivotal scene where MM instructs his security staff to not allow these particular filmmakers into a press conference, they created fake IDs at Kinkos and snuck in, cameras rolling, and ambushed him publicly.

Read some newspapers and some books on the subject of NAFTA, perhaps look up “rape and pillage” under resources, and get back to me.

Yes, Charles, as an politically active Canadian I have heard of NAFTA, thank you for asking. Clearly, you don’t know quite enough about it. Briefly, NAFTA was the first and only legislation recognized (but not not necessarily supported) by the US govt that suggested, even slightly, that America is a player in the world market, not the leader. If you choose to properly research the Agreement rather than adopt your knee-jerk reaction evidenced in your post, make sure you look up softwood lumber disputes as part of the big picture. You may be disappointed to see how American authorities are not necessarily team players.

It’s not just film jobs heading north, Charles. Last I heard Argentina, Brasil, and NZ/Australia and of course that entire eastern european region including Latvia that’s getting a huge volume of work from American production companies that aren’t getting as much support from the American local and federal government because … the US govt is bankrupt?!? Not sure.

But wow, you guys have low taxes!

And the border continues to clamp up tighter than (fill in crude joke here).

That’s how they shot that awesome scene in the doc I think it was called “Finding Michael Moore” where they printed business cards at Kinkos to get access.

    Happens quite a bit.

Why is renting in Montreal not an option?

Why is traveling with a load of delicate expensive gear such a great idea?

Just fly in, rent a car and your gear, and fly out with your toothbrush. Hell, buy the toothbrush in Canada as well.

It’s just too much of a hassle and too many things can go wrong.

But the FedEx route is what I’ve had other guys use for a few things. But it’s really expensive and kinda hard to justify to a client when a local rental facility could be cheaper.

Basically, coming into Canada shouldn’t be a problem. It’s you yanks that pull out the guns when aliens like, oh, me try to enter the country and take away american jobs.

Bitter from personal experience? Maybe just a bit.

    [Joe Womble] “Which Avid software?
    Which XDCAM data rate? 35Mbps?
    What’s your hardware profile?”

Ah yes, of course. Kinda new to this forum.

Symphony Nitris, 1.8. XDCAM not sure but it’s lighting up 1080i on the playback deck. I’m trying to capture at either of the DNxHD selections they are all slow.

I have no issues with HDCAM footage that I digitize via HDSDI. I have also just discovered I can transcode a test timeline and it plays fine.

There’s no way to bring in 35mbps into Avid. 25 you can bring in via firewire as HDV.

You have to use a conversion utility I found here on the COW that re-renders everything. Sorry, that’s the best we’ve got at least until before NAB.

I’m not sure if the Avid quick import is working here. I have a 3 minute clip that looks like it’s taking over 10 minutes. Any other Avid settings I need to be aware of?

Brad, what is your website and can I sign up for updates and a donate now/buy now button? Your product is a lifesaver until Avid or Sony get their act together.

  • C4D exports AE files? That’s amazing.

I’m using Lighwave and it’s definitely less developed.

Can any one recommend a DVD or training video that goes over the importances of which render buffers are ‘must have’, the stacking and transfer orders of these buffers. Lighwave gives you some buffer layers but already I’m noticing some need to be inverted and there is no indication of what layers are important to re-create the composite.

    Thanks!

    I’m curious, why?

For me having freelance camera operators with access to their booked dates, along with address info for the gigs via Google Calendar strikes a solid plus for web based. Additionally, I give the clients limited access to upload their own information if they want, and monitor the projects progress. For many, they feel empowered and more involved in the project giving them higher perceived value. That’s weddings on up to corporate.
