    How not to go pro:

PixelCorps. I love their podcasts and actually paid for a trial membership subscription, but it was way too inside and when I stopped paying I fell off their planet. I never heard from them again, and lost 100% of the access.

digitalweddingforum.com. I love the site, or what I’m allowed to see. I love the teaser banners for content. It looks like a group I want to join … but the sign-up was onerous, elitist, and my trial membership was actually DECLINED because I wasn’t an actual Photographer (despite holding a degree at Ryerson Photo Arts, and shooting cinematic wedding videos). A standout as how NOT to run a community. I’m sure I could have contributed much to their web forum.

September 17, 2008 at 1:10 pm in reply to: Using batch lists from Client edit logs – in tapeless

Welcome to the world of tapeless, where productions save hundreds on a camera rental but pay thousands more in post.

What it means is your rate just went up because rather than dealing with throwing a tape into a deck and capturing a 10 second clip you have to import an hour.

And store it on YOUR drives rather than the clients $25 tape.

It’s not perfect. Actually, XDCAM (not EX) is close in that you can just grab what you need if you capture via HDSDI. The more I deal with it the more I really like XDCAM (not EX).

The fact that there is a mobile version is awesome.
I like mini cow for two reasons. Loads fast and ad free. If you want more access to full cow, see ads or hopefully pay for an ad-free pro site.

I had some luck with Google cache while retrieving everyone’s responses to “the best thing about edit”.

    apple hasn’t fixed this yet?

are you going to also tell me changing speed of timeline clips throws your show out of sync?

that nest thing has never worked. its just for what walter said. video usually ok but audio either goes out of sync or goes unmixed.

solution: nest vid and mixdown audio to a new file

I know it’s truly bizarre that I am even asking about this. How to add something engineers have worked for years to eliminate.

… but the client thinks it looks cool!!!

I didn’t know about a Sapphire plugin that does that. Thanks for the tip.

August 22, 2008 at 3:00 am in reply to: What’e the best HD Camera for Weddings

The 200 is a big, bulky camera and for weddings you’ll want a Firestore which adds considerable bulk and weight. I’m not a huge fan, and even though as an EDITOR I don’t like what Sony has done with the EX1 in terms of how it plays with FCP (sort of well) and Avid (not at all), the images that camera captures are stunning.

This camera has its caveats of course but the picture quality is stunning for the price. Plus you can swap SXS cards (Sony’s P2 format) on the fly. It’s off balance making hand held shooting a challenge (use two hands) and the menu system will take work.

But overall a perfect choice for a wedding.
