The services to create the deliverable is waht is taxed. So in most cases it it the entire bill.
I do not do many jobs in different states. As far as I know I do not charge tax for out of state clients, but my accountant would know for sure.

In Wisconsin all of those services are taxable. However if you create footage or edited clips and give them to another production company for used in a larger project and they then resell that footage, then you are selling to a reseller and they are responsible for the tax on those things. Also, if your client is a non-profit and tax exempt you wouldn’t charge tax.
You would charge tax (in wisconsin) if you sold your footage, edited videos, animations etc if they were the end user. For example, I usually don’t charge tax to Agencies because they resell the video to their clients with a markup so they charge the tax. I have a reseller form on file for that agency. However if I author the demo reel for that agency to use as a selling tool, then they are the end user and I charge them tax.
Don’t forget Use Tax, which is for tax on items you purchase not to sell but to use, like office supplies, decks etc, and buy via the internet and don’t pay state or local sales tax.
Every quarter, the tax form you would file is for Sales and Use tax and includes the tax you charged your clients and Use tax for those items purchased out of state and were not charged tax on.
Your accountant can help identify which items are subject to use tax, and usually the accounting department at your client can help determine when to charge them tax.

Ok, the client also wants to get an HDV clone of their source tape. So that would be a firewire camera to Sony HDV deck?
And if I did use the Sony deck via firewire into FCP coule I tell FCP to write the incoming Firewire stream to DVCPro HD and work with that on the timeline? Seems like that is a possible workflow into FCP if I want to cut everything DVCPro HD and have some HDV footage and the Sony deck.

But the Sony can output 720p HD via firewire, and wouldn’t that be the correct frame size for DVCProHD and the Panasonic would simply write DVCProHD to the tape?
Guess I’m wrong on this one….but in Sony’s case, what is the 720p HD it can convert to?

Try MpegStreamclip…do a google search and you will find it. It is pretty much standard equipment if you are on a Mac.

I have a feeling the media you are talking about is for dye sub printers and not inkjet…the long drying time and the dripping ink when wet are the telltale signs.

I hear Maxell was supposed to come out with these earlier this year…my supplier doesn’t have them yet but they might be out there. I too do not use Verbatim. Only Maxell pretty exclusively.

If you have Filemaker Pro and Photoshop you can make a layout in Filemaker and bring in your PSDs as backgrounds adding the text in Filemaker. Later you can dupe a record to make a new one, or to print more of the same label. Best thing is once you have the text filled in you can print from the various layouts you created to many different label formats.
A little hand work up front, but real easy once you get it set up.

I do wish Apple would rework that whole keyframe thing and timeline adjustments. It’s a wacky keyframe world in FCP when you come from an After Effects background.
I think even Avid wins the keyframe battle…barely.

Had this problem…simply turn off a layer at a time (I’d start with the type layers since that is what it was with us) and render. Just turn off one layer at a time and try a render. Once you turn off the culprit the render will go through…replace that layer…if it’s type, just redo the layer.
