Does the patch create problems on a Mac, PC or both? I too use MPEG-1 because of its universal playback and legacy compatibility.
Although Flip4Mac is a good option for playing WMV’s on a Mac, I don’t think you can convince an entire sales force using Macs that they will have to install a $100 plug in to playback your Powerpoint. Most of the Powerpoints I build are going out to a sales force that could have both platforms and wants no-nonsense playback and compatibility. It’s a challenge sure, but MPEG-1 has been the trusty video format for a long time.
That’s why MPEG-1 was so nice…no explanations or trick software to play it. And very old and tired computers could play it.
My guess is that the patch simply broke something that will be fixed. I can’t believe MPEG-1 is going away. Wonder if Microsoft has to pay some fees for enabling MPEG-1 playback and they are tired of paying it.
Not good news, Flip4Mac or not.
