For us RAID 5 is perfect. All we have on our main RAID volume is the raw footage that is double backed up as soon as it comes in the building. Then every night we back up the project file volume to 10 TB Iron Wolf’s. Drives have been a major workhorse over the years and I have had two failures in 19 years. Backups saved the day.

So since we went with 4 TB drives with only 8 bays we needed the extra space and our backups will give us the peace of mind if the RAID fails.

I’d almost go RAID 0 just for space sake as long as we have solid backup procedures.

Also we auto save our projects to our internal drives so they are not on the NAS in case of failure….at least we have the project files.

Love our two iMac Pros….Dongling off the back is a pain and wish it had two ethernet ports native.

Stephen do you use a dock for your iMac Pro and what model did you get?

Rev does all the flavors, can edit online and download in many formats. They do Captioning, subtitles and can even put in all the ums and ahs etc or leave them out. The only thing they don’t do yet is stripe the transcription with timecode from an MP4 with window burn…they can add a timestamp but it is like control track from the old tape days.

So when we get the transcript back we add timecode stamps every few sentences from our sequences.

Problem is they are not in any particular order on the cards….might a broll shot for client A and then an interview for client B and back to broll. So finder level would be tricky.

I planned to bring them into premier and create sequences of Broll and interviews for each client and then media manage those sequences into new folders and back that up. Any better way than Premier?

Actually I think that 8K will bring back photo realistic video in higher frame rates because its resolution is so clear and if the image is large enough (although not truly 3D) will feel like you are actually there. Not suited for dramas or maybe narratives, but really great for Nat Geo and Discovery! Sports too. Now the wide shot of the football field on an 85 inch 8k TV will truly feel like one of the seats.

Three years ago I saw 8K at the NHK booth and said I would skip 4K altogether and go straight to 8K. Looks like that is coming true since Samsung just announced the WLED 65 inch 8K TV for $5000.

I also think only gaming will take advantage of virtual headsets….I’m not walking around town with a headset on. My large phone screen will be just fine thank you. So same with 3D….probably ok in theaters where everyone wears the glasses, but probably not in the home.

What about 360? How in the world do I know where you want me to look? However put up a weather camera on a tower and give me 360 views and that works! But for storytelling? Not sure I’ve seen compelling examples that make it worthwhile for narratives.

Wow, Bob, Axle is a great little tool. That was the best part of this thread. I always wished CAT DV would create something simple like this. This fits the bill big time!

I have the same thing on my Nikon D80. Was thinking of hitting it with baby powder but fine powder and electronics don’t mix. Maybe freezing it and hitting it with light sandpaper?
