Thanks Jeremy,
Recording ProRes 422 on the KiPro, testing with a DVCPROHD 50p edit.
Firmware is 2.0.0.??? (dont have it in front of me)
So it should work just fine to enter a TC in the edit to tape window and set that as my in point for the assemble edit?
I must be have something wrong if the TC is resetting to 0.0.0.0
Will continue testing, if you’ve got any more insight I thnak you in advance

Now I’m confused. Are you saying I should look at the many Ads and stick a pin in one? What would be the point of this forum and all the effort you make with advice?
I asked about a particular combination to see if there were any pitfalls which other users have experienced. I’ve seen it recommended by other people elsewhere on the web and it seemingly offers good value.
I asked if now is a good time to purchase this combination because all tech has a lifecycle and is regularly replaced and superceeded. As I said in my post, I’m not up to speed and want to avoid investing in tech which is approaching the end of its lifecycle.
Aplogies if this wasn’t clear in my original query.

Shane, thanks very much for tip. This will come in very handy!

Thanks for the responses, been away on a job and wasn’t able to check the forums.
Yeah, the timing gear was pro track timing, I cut the clip at the gun going off and winner crossing the line so its as close to the official timing duration as I could get it.
This is PAL so yeah, no drop frame issues.
I’m glad to hear its not me who thinks the drift is excessive.
I’m wondering whether its a problem/limitation with the HPX500, unfortunately the other cameras buttoned on and off so I have no other continuous clips.
Anyone willing to put their HPX500 against the clock and see if it drifts by as much?

Are you looking at the letterboxed output or full anamorphic? I used to use an old CRT that didn’t support 16:9 and the letterboxed downconvert image from the Kona was horribly aliased. It pretty much disappears from the FHA image tho.

well, this works
in Raylight set the target framerate to 50fps, open clips or batch conform in cinema tools to 25fps – hey presto. Slo-mo.
What doesn’t work is to import into FCP and open in Cinema tools. But why would I want to go through the hassle of log and transfer anyway. In just a few seconds I can have a full speed and slo-mo version of each clip.

Thanks Dave,
Yes, definately DVCPROHD. To my knowledge you cant convert using log and transfer. P2logpro exports as DVCPROHD. Raylight wraps as DVCPROHD too.
I’m confused by the fact that it still works in 5.x but not in 6.x.
I was hoping to make extensive use of the conform for a sports show and now I’m having to find a workaround.

Lets be real here, shooters use digibeta because they own it and know it, their clients want it because the shooters are selling it to them. If they all owned P2 Hi-def cameras they wouldn’t be pitching digibeta shoots! How are they going to supply hi-def coverage/footage with digibeta? Do you really think they will retire rather than use new equipment? Everything is changing and its happening now.
Rent a Sony Camera – what will it be? HDV? XDCAMHD? HDCAM? HDCAMSR? D5? supply the client a DV tape or an XD disc or a HDCAM tape and then watch them rush out to spend $3000/10,000/100,000 (nz) on a deck to ingest and output it. I don’t think so. Shoot P2 to a hardrive for them, they know what it is, they own the hardware to use it and they know that it has DVCPRO/HD on it. How many HDCAM decks are in your immmediate area and how many laptops are in your immediate area?
P2 can be difficult to get your head around but how straightforward is the Sony situation? P2 cards are expensive but how cheap are the alternatives?
PCMCIA is being made out to be an older interface but it’s irrelevant, P2 cards are specialist equipment, hook one up to a expresscard slot with an adapter and it ingests twice as fast as a PCMCIA interface anyway, they were designed for higher speeds than a PCMICA bus offers. They are way over spec’d for the task, they are being written to at 100mbps but they can be written to at 200 or 300 in future.
Just my thoughts, hope it helped.

Its very easy to work with P2, I love it to be honest. I make extensive use of the description and scene and comments fields. This is where I log all the footage and I leave the clip names as they were. Everytime you put an entry into one of the fields it becomes available via right-click. so for multiple clips you can then select them all and update with a right click of the mouse. you can also sort your clips by these fields and search for all clips making it very easy to find all your GV’s IV’s or Asylum shots.
