UPDATE: I stabilized the clip in FCPX, then exported to Motion and used “match move” with two tracking points (on plants on the hilltop), then used motion path to add a little drift. I think it came out pretty well.

Would be happy to hear any ideas on how to improve it.

Thanks, Mark. Will give that a try.

  • This is probably too little and too late to be of help, Henry. As of now, I don’t have a better solution than DropBox, which charges $10 / month or $99 / year for 1TB of cloud storage.

I’m actually posting here because I, too, feel as if Google Drive should be an option for AVCHD files, since I’ve got about 14GB of free space. Does anyone knows how to upload wrapped AVCHD files to Drive?

    thanks

  • Thanks Aaron.

I don’t know, but almost assuredly a PC. But both my client and the tech guys at his firm reported the sync issue, and I doubt the tech guys have old machines. Also, I did see the sync problem on a friend’s Mac after my first export – although the same machine had no problems after I re-exported on my older machine from the self-contained file.

Anyway, how do I export using the Sorenson codec? I’m not finding it.

The problem is they want to post to youtube, which prefers h264, mpeg2, or mpeg4. I’m going to send them mpeg4, but will also send Sorenson if I can work that out.

    thanks

  • This thread deals with similar issues – I’m having them too – and offers some workarounds:

Thanks to everyone for the suggestions. I see merit in both Alejandro’s and Job’s suggestions and will test them out. Job’s may be best since it allows for a new mask for each car, which means I don’t have to maintain unneeded vector points (some cars are more complex than others).

Ross, if I understand correctly, Mocha is not necessary here, since I have a still shot and the billboard is not moving relative to the frame. There’s no need to track the billboard itself. But maybe I’m misunderstanding what Mocha does.

    thanks again

Thanks, Max. Fro what I can tell, FAB is Windows only. Is there a good subtitler for Mac machines that will do this?

You’re absolutely right, Jeremy. I am rotoscoping those “partial obscurations,” as the big vehicles enter and exit the “frame” of the billboard, just like when a car goes by and blocks part of the billboard. So I only want to turn the mask “off” for the frames when the billboard is entirely obscured. In essence, I am rotoscoping the mask to get smaller until it “disappears” and then get larger again until the vehicle has passed and the mask is the same size as the entire bllboard.

Thanks, Barend. Unfortunately, I’d attempted to set opacity to zero, but I’m using a subtract mask to cut out a rectangle within the frame, so bringing opacity to zero removes everything outside of the mask (billboard), giving me a mostly black frame, which is not what I need.

Am I missing something? Should I not be using a subtract mask and drawing a rectangle around the billboard?

    thanks

Thanks, Pat. That seems like a very workable solution, and one I probably should of thought of…
