  • Thanks for the input. I believe they use the Areca cards. If I am correct Raid 6 takes a slight loss in write speed over 5, but they should read the same? Might stay with raid 6.

Anyone know the half life of this new version?

  • I’m confused. Is that a beer commercial? Why is there no video? Are you talking about me behind my back?

Can you post how fast the 8 drive unit is with the Kona or BM utility?

I’m hoping to be able to do 4K with a 16 rive unit.

    Hi Walter,

I was referring to the “display brightness” slider of the scopes that seems like it allows you to see more information. I slide it up to about 75% – default is 50%.

Also how often do you use the broadcast safe filter? I find it works on luma, not chroma. I have been having some success with FCP secondaries in taking red construction vests (which are always quite saturated) and pulling those down. It doesn’t always work to get a good HSL key – of course Color is much better at that, but I don’t always have the luxury of Color.

    Thanks Walter,

They haven’t started yet, and were looking for suggestions.

I believe the only trackballs that work with FCP’s 3way CC is the JL Cooper (eclipse or spectrum). I use my Spectrum all the time in FCP – unfortunately more than I get to use Color, as not ever project requires the power and time needed for Color. I will say my grades in FCP got better with the trackballs.

    Thanks

I was looking for a small form factor computer for this. One of the negatives reviews of this case I read said the power supply fans were noisy. Can you comment.

    Great, thorough post.

This is way off topic, but here goes.

I happen to watch HD cable/DVD/Bluray on almost a 14 foot diagonal 1080P DLP projection screen, so I pretty much see each and every artifact from my close sitting position. I find that even the best HD up conversion jobs seen on the major networks looks rather poor. However, I recently got a new Oppo HD-83 upconverting DVD/bluray player. The upconverting chip is the VRS Anchor bay, and this Oppo unit supposedly has the best dvd upconversion right now. The quality of DVD’s looks quite a bit better to me than anything I’ve seen on HD cable upconversions.

I know the anamorphic content of DVD’s gives it some additional vertical resolution, but is that solely responible for a $500 dvd player looking better than an expensive professional grade upconversion?

I am still interested in finding a small form factor PC that would take this card.

    Is the card low profile?

The HP dc9700 ultra slim takes 1 mini pcie. I wonder if this would work?

The dc9700 small form factor takes 4 low profile pcie cards.

Here is a link to the series of PCs.
