    Have you checked out https://incompetech.com/music/
Kevin MacLeod offers a very wide range of completely professional music clips.
And at the lowest prices possible (free for credit).
There are also several sources who specialize in YouTube but offer their music for traditional productions.
For example, one of my favorites: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5cmlgvekbYY

The main difference I see is that the webcam seems to auto-focus on the very busy backdrop, and misses the presenter which throws him out of focus. Lack of control over things like focus is one of the main differences between a simple web-cam and a more sophisticated camera.

June 24, 2019 at 1:45 pm in reply to: Advice on capturing projector

I am quite happy with a little “game recorder” gadget.
It has HDMI in and out (pass-through) so it can be connected between the computer and the projector.
It will record to USB (thumb drive or SSD) or to SDHC card.

I use two of them for quick turn-around to record directors in a choral conducting workshop. But they are also useful for capturing computer/projector video in a presentation. Very inexpensive but very useful little gadgets. Recommended.

  • .TRM is a proprietary format created by a company called “For The Record”.
They offer an online player at: https://www.fortherecord.com/products/ftrwebplayer/

They also offer a downloadable player called “FTR Player”.
You can download the player here: https://www.fortherecord.com/products/ftr-player/
And you can download the manual here: https://www.fortherecord.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/UserGuide-Player-6.2.pdf
According to page 32 of the manual the FTR Player has the option to separate the channels and save as AVI, MP3, PCM, WAV, or WMF (WMA or WMV)

June 10, 2019 at 5:12 am in reply to: Anyone ever recorded with binaural mics?

Just to clarify, do you mean binural where a pair of microphones are embedded into a pair of head-spaced rubber ears (or worn on your own ears) Or do you mean a stereo single-point microphone where the left and right capsules are fixed at some angle in a single mic body?

But regardless, all microphones and microphone techniques have their place and meet a particular need. But are horribly inappropriate for other situations.

Don’t plan on “shortcut to surround sound editing” until you have tried it. There may be SOME situations where it will work. But don’t get your hopes up.

You did not mention how you are powering your recorder?
It is possible that if you are operating on batteries that are running low,
the extra strain of producing phantom power may be too much for the batteries.

  • Do you REALLY need WIRELESS microphones? Are the subjects going to be waling around in the wilderness, or will they be in fixed positions (per shot)?

Remember the axiom: “A $30 cable is better than a $3000 wireless system.”

  • You are not going to get that kind of quality from a single lav clipped to one person.
I don’t see a lav on the guy in your example video.
I strongly suspect that he has a microphone in the brim of his baseball cap.
Perhaps something like one of the little plastic Rode videomics.
And likely a recorder in his backpack. Clever.

  • I used to use Premiere. I could take a stereo track and mute one side.
So you can take two copies of a stereo track, mute Right on the “Left” track,
and mute Left on the “Right” track. Than pan each to the appropriate channel.
I have also split stereo tracks into discrete Left and Right using other methods.
Do you have Adobe Audition? I believe that directly supports splitting Stereo into two mono tracks.

  • That depends on:
    1) How the music is delivered to you? (a) As a combined “stereo” track with embedded Left and Right, or (b) As two separate tracks, Music Left and Music Right.
    2) What video editing software you are using. Different software works differently so since we don’t know what you are using, we can’t suggest how it might be done.

Perhaps you can send a stereo track directly to Front Left and Front Right? Dunno. Does your software allow that?
Or perhaps you will need to split a stereo track into independent Music Left and Music Right tracks?

And perhaps you might also need to convert the sample rate. As most pure music production is done at 44.1K samples/sec while video production is essentially standardized on 48K samples/sec. Sometimes the (unidentified) video editing software does this for you, and sometimes you have to do it for yourself. Too many variables to get very specific.
