Hi Adam,
Even if you have no need for laying your program to tape or capturing video from tape, the need for accurate color and broadcast monitoring for delivery is still *critical* This is where your Kona LHi comes in!The Kona LHi will allow you accurate monitoring and even HD/SDI or HDMI ins and outs should the need arise in the future. The Lhi will do everything you need BUT you will need a good calibrated HD monitor for color grading so you can see truly what you are sending to the network. Bare minimum get a 1080p Panasonic Plasma ($1000) and have it professionally calibrated. about $200- $300 and worth every penny. Better yet get an FSI monitor https://www.shopfsi.com/
This investment will be the best money you ever spend if you want to do accurate broadcast delivery.Hope this helps

Are you asking if you can run your broadcast monitor connected to your Kona LHi as a 3rd computer monitor? I believe so. I can do this on my Kona 3 and it works great although this would not work for color grading… but as strictly as a 3rd “desktop monitor”, sure. In the AJA control panel, under the control settings select “mackintosh desktop” for your default video output and *bam* you now have a 3rd computer monitor. Then go into your “system settings” on your mac and chose “arrangement and arrange the 3rd monitor where ever you want it to be in reference to the other two.
I am not certain that the LHi has this option but I would think it would be the same as the Kona 3.
Hope this helps.

I have FCP Studio 2 running on a clean install of Snow Leaopard with no problems. Running a dual quad core Zeon Mac Pro in a professional studio, every day all day and so far, works like a charm.

March 27, 2010 at 10:56 pm in reply to: Any Kona solution for HD playback without PCIe?Hi Shane,
The way I read this is; it captures to ProRes via SDI or component but not Firewire…. Still pretty cool though. It must have a hardware encoder and just uses the firewire to transport into the FCP system once it is encoded to ProRes?Here is what is on the link:
“The V4HD speeds your capture process by ingesting any source directly to ProRes format. Just connect the source via SDI, component or any of the other offered on its rear panel, and your resulting clips are captured in ProRes format, without the extra step needed to transcode them.”

I had my 50″ Panny professionally calibrated and it was the best $300 I have ever spent. Just google “monitor calibration tech” in your area and you should be able to find someone in your state. It is very reassuring to know it is done right by someone that certified for this kind of work.
Good Luck

Hi Jason,
I have to tell you… that this is very nice work! You have a great visual story telling ability, even with no video to work with. Great song by the way. Would love to see the final version when you have it all available online.Keep it up!

I too have had nothing but excellent sevice from AJA support. They even replaced my second hand KONA3 for free when it was no longer under warranty! I was not even the original owner….All I had to do was pay shipping. And they sent me a complete cable replacement set, again for free, even after I told them my card was second hand and did not come with cables.
“One issue I just posted about with the Control Panel reverting to defaults constantly. No help.”
I have read in several threads here that you must be logged in as “administrator” for your control panel to not revert back to defaults. Are you an Admin on your system?
“…then what is the setting ‘Graphic Over Video In’ for?”
This could possibly be a setting in “anticipation” for a future software update in which this would be possible? I have seen this before on other software and hardware. I know it can be frustrating but if the card wont do it, the card just wont do it…. time to move on…
Just some thoughts…. Hope they are helpful.

So I just tested this and pulled all of my PAL Kona Easy Setups into a folder on my desktop, trashed my preferences in FCP, opened up FCP and *BAM*… my system exploded! HA, not!
It worked like a charm and ALL of my PAL easy set ups were GONE but everything else remained.By the way… here is a great free software to trash, manage and even SAVE your preferences in all your FCStudio apps: https://www.digitalrebellion.com/pref_man.htm
Call me if you need to, you have my number.

Hi Kevin,
In your main mac HD go to library>Application Support>Final Cut Pro System Support>Custom Settings>Kona3 Easy Setups. In this folder there is all of your Kona 3 east set ups. I have not tried this… but you may be able to remove (and save somewhere else where you can find them later) the easy set ups you wish to remove. You may also need to trash your pref in FCP so it forces FCP to go through the process of indexing them again. Otherwise they may still show up in your easy setup drop down.
Getting them back should be as simple as doing this in reverse. But I cant guarantee it. 😉
