You can also check out some of the downtown hotels as well. You’ll need a car to get to the show, but there are a few good options such as the Golden Nugget (most expensive), The D (nice, inexpensive), and the new Downtown Grand (haven’t stayed there, but getting good reviews).
If you’re coming in early and making a weekend of it-there’s a lot to do without driving around. Downtown Vegas has really come alive the last few years. It’s a shame NAB and the convention bureau freeze out downtown from convention business….there’s some great value and fun there.
If you’re in town on Friday the 4th, check out First Friday in the Art District. Local bands, artists and food trucks….Vegas is not all about the strip (which is actually not Las Vegas, but Paradise, NV).
If you’re only in and out, then definitely the strip, and make sure to have breakfast at least once at The Peppermill, on the North Strip.

No. IN fact I was in such a hurry to get it, that I didn’t even realize it was not on the list. Our local BMCC dealer does not stock SSD drives….go figure…and tells people to just run over to Best Buy and get one. Uh…no.
I got one at a computer store and the Extreme II was all they had. But I noticed no difference in performance either way.
I did notice a difference in price. Ugh.

I bought one the other day because I needed one the next morning. It worked fine.

I second the Switronix Jet Pack. I have it for my BMCC (get the extension cable, as your particular configuration might require some extra length on the power cable). It powers multiple devices, including my wireless (2), Alphatron vf, and a Nanoflash.

March 23, 2013 at 2:10 pm in reply to: 2-Day Blackmagic Cinema Camera Workshop, March 29, 30, AtlantaI was so excited to be attending this workshop, I fat fingered the date on my iPhone….so there I was at Walter’s at 9:15….yesterday the 22nd.
Definitely looking forward though….due to weather my shoot today has been cancelled so I’m playing with my BMCC.
Thanks to Walter for the tour of his place, and coffee. 🙂

I offer up this suggestion: Stop by The Peppermill on the North end of the strip. Great place for breakfast, and take a few minutes and check out the firepit lounge.
Hash House A Go Go in Imperial Palace….another awesome breakfast, which will last you all day.
Show tickets-go to Tix 4 Tonight (locations all over Vegas) and you can get unsold tickets for most every show heavily discounted. You need to get there when they open (10am) to get the best shows, and yes you can get great seats.
Down Tropicana-check out the Pinball Hall of Fame. Machines from a century of pinball. Ten bucks will get you a couple hours of being a kid again.

Some years, you can beat the NAB rates. I had Rio last year for $22/night for Sun-Wed. Another year I stayed downtown, and got Golden Nugget at $99 for the Gold Club room. There’s still places you can beat NAB, mostly downtown (Fremont, PLaza, Golden Gate, Main Street Station). It seems all the hotels on the strip are holding their rates up during the week of NAB, even if they are not a NAB hotel.
Four years ago, Tropicana stopped being a show hotel and we had that very cheap. This year it’s as expensive or more than Monte Carlo (our place this year @$108).
Nab rates are going up as hotels fill up. If you book and the rate goes down they will re-book at the lower rate. If rate goes up, you still get the lower rate.
This year, NAB rates are a good deal lower than booking through any other travel site.
