I really love the Sony NX5P (PAL).. I think that once you go tapeless then you will never go back. I also like recording at 1080X1920 shooting in progressive. I use the FMU for 11 hours non-stop HD recording.

I run a wedding business and use both the NX5 and the EX1R and both cameras are very smooth on the time line so much so that I have difficulty seperating which camera shot which clip. I am even considering buying another NX5.

My advice is go with the NX5.

Just a as a follow up on this thread, Sony have acknowledged that the problem in rendering in HD – 50i (PAL) is a glitch in the software (Vegas 9e).

They stated that they wont be issuing an update but have tested Version 10 and have corrected it.

Hi John..
I use Sandisk Class 10 Extremes for weddings and they work great, never had an issue with them. I originally got stung buying fakes on e-bay but pay a little extra and get originals and no worries…

I have a wedding business here in Australia and I cannot talk highly enough about the NXCAM NX5. Sure it may not do some things like shot transitions but u can around that. Its a no-nonsense camera and it is just perfect for the wedding industry. I have never had an issue with mine recording to SD cards (class 10), Sony Memory Stick HG cards or the FMU attached to the camera.

The only thing I would have liked to have seen on this camera is interval recording so I could record clouds which make a great fill for my weddings but I use my EX1R for that anyway.

Just thought that I would post Sony’s reply to my issue of drop outs whilst rendering… Vegas 9e still has some bugs but only for us PAL users it would appear… come on 9f

Thank you for your patience during our testing of this issue. After a variety of testes performed by our Quality Assurance and Development teams, we have been able to reproduce this issue in the Vegas Pro 9.0 64-bit application. I apologize for this problem in the workflow and have been presented with the following work around:

Find frame 260 (the one that always renders black) and delete it. After that, move the right half of the event over to close the gap. If you render again, there will be no black frame and playback looks smooth.

I apoplogize for the need to utilize this work-around to obtain your render in the 50i render template. Our Development team is currently working to resolve this issue for a future build of the software. Again, I apologize for any difficulties or limitations you experienced using the Vegas Pro 9.0e. I sincerely appreciate the time and effort that you have taken to document this problem and to share your information. It is very important that we receive this type of feedback so that we may better serve our customers.

Hi all,
Just to post my results… I have tried different settings and have noticed that if I render to 23.976 or 24 fps I don’t get the black random dropouts.

However if I render to 25fps then I get random dropouts which is unusable. Being on the PAL system (Australia) I prefer to render in 25fps but can live with 23.976. Contacted Sony but they are very slow getting back to me and insist its the way the files are being imported which its not as the project plays fine on the time line and the issue is only apparent when I render to 25fps.

I also tried the same footage and rendered at 25fps in CS4 and no problems. I think Sony still has a glitch with Vegas 9e at 25fps.

I contacted Sony and they requested me to ensure all other programs were shut down and wanted to know my comp’s specs then never got back to me. Shall try them again. Thanks for getting back to me.
