If a tape based camera is what you are looking for, check out the HDX900 from Panasonic.
Very similar to the Varicam but does 720 and 1980.

Questions regarding the Lectrosonics.
Was the antenna on the receiver 8-12″ long or 4″ long?
Lectrosonics has been around for a long time and at first they had a VHF package that had a 12″ long antenna on the receiver. That unit was NOT frequency agile and the VHF band is extremely busy. It would be very easy to pick up another VHF signal.

Lectrosonics then came out with a UHF system. Easiest way to tell if it was UHF was to look at the antenna on the receiver. It was 1/3 the length of the orginal VHF systems.

Last question on the Lectrosonics is were there one or two antennas on each receiver? One antenna meant that the receiver wasn’t a diversity receiver and “drop outs” were common.

Never the less, if it was an older VHF, non-diversity, non frequency agile Lectrosonic, luck had to be on your side to make it work near a large airport.

Lectrosonic makes a great product, but years ago, you needed to be lucky or very good at audio and sometimes both.

If all else fails, can you have the guitar player “Loop” the audio by doing it again? He or she can listen to the live recording while you do a clean record of them playing it again.
Add some singers and you will have a terrific mix.

When I mentioned surreal, I was refering to the lack of interlace vertical hop. I have been doing slow motion replays for football for ten years and it was always interlaced.
Progressive slow motion is as smooth as 12 year old Scotch. Surreal may be an overstatement… How about “Way cool”.

I’ll answer the second half of your question. 720p is terrific for slow motion since it is progressive versus interlaced.
We did a beauty piece where everything was shot 720p at 60 and then resolved down to 30.
No vertical hop that you get with an interlace project when slowed down.
The images were fluid and almost surreal!

I agree with Ty. Use an automated mixer with the same type of microphone for each person or two.

We have three of the Shure 8 channel for a total of 24 at a time.
We tried at first to do a live mix with a standard board, but no one is that good.

One very big question though. You mentioned capture the audio. Will this be sent to a live P.A., Public address?
It is one thing to capture the audio for recording and another to capture and amplify the audio.

John, enlighten me.

I have never heard anyone mention SP or LP regarding DVCPro100 in our little pool of post houses.

I am familiar, the hard way, with the different head gap width between our 1400 and 1200A compared to our original 130DC deck and our Varicam.

I have also heard of our 1400 and 1200a refered to as a DVCPro100EX.

When would I experience the SP or LP? Is this a dialog that I might hear on the Coast?
