Must be early in the morning. Audio outputs, sequence settings, Stereo Monitoring: L+R was not selected. Whew. ha.

    Shane,

Thanks for your note. Yes I eventually figured out that I needed to uninstall drivers first and then reinstall the drivers- after several tries. ha. But today AJA tech support actually directed me to back down to the previous firmware, which I did so through their archived software download page. However that was just an insurance policy. I think the tide turned when I uninstalled before reinstalling drivers. So in effect you are right on.

Big thanks for the confirmation of my path.
    Best,

    Hi Gary,

Thanks for the note. I actually used the proper drivers- from the website, not from the original disc. I realized that I needed to do so after writing my initial post. But that didn’t prevent the “preview disabled” within my log and capture window on any of the io codecs.

AJA tech support suggested I back down to the previous firmware, which I did today by downloading the previous firmware from there software archive download page. Now everything is working well in FCP 6.0.4.

Something evidently happened in my initial flash of the firmware and subsequent cycle of power- because I never received a message saying the firmware had been successfully updated. AJA said the only reason I needed to update my firmware was to use the Proio Control Panel and that the panel itself was not necessary for functionality of my io.

I’m not sure if the lesson in this case was “do not update multiple items at once” or “be patient during any firmware flashing.” Either way, when the dust settled, I was just glad to be alive.

Thanks Gary for replying. I installed my original drivers for the io which I already had on disc. I’ll call tech support this morning.

Todd, FCP cache is kept under your username/library/preferences/finalcutpro user data

There’s an obj and prof cache in there, but be careful. I would not recommend to start tossing stuff unless you’re absolutely sure what your throwing away. I’m sure if some of the more experienced FCP folks were in here they’d be able to better define. It’s been so long since I’ve done that- probably back on version 5.0. I haven’t had to do anything like that since Studio Pro, but I know your feeling- when you’ve been chasing something since 1 p.m. It all started at 4:30 for me. ha.

Todd, thanks for replying. I know what you’re talking about – unplugging and plugging back in to wake up the log and capture or give it a fresh kick in the rear, but that’s not working in this case unfortunately. I told the AJA forum that I also installed the AJA ProIo control panel today and it asked me to update my firmware. I followed instructions in the release notes, but when I went back to log and capture to test playback and capture (as the notes suggested)- nothing. Of course I had not tested after installing the proapps update so I added to my confusion. I’ll probably have to give AJA a call tomorrow. Appreciate your help.

  • Thanks Todd for your advice. Yes I believe a pat on the back, maybe a pizza and brew would be sufficient. He’s a long time friend and I expect that friendship to continue well into the future. He’s really happy with the product, and you’re right that it will most likely lead to future work as his career continues to be successful.

The video is posted at my website, there is a link in my news section.

    best regards,

  • Dear Todd and David- thanks for commenting on this topic.

    I have a “before” question.

I’ve already shot and edited a music video for a friend who’s a talented up and coming guitarist. The video is still in my editing system and I was about the put front and back tags on it, but then a question hit me.

If my friend owns copyright to the music, yet I produced the video- who’s copyright can appear on the video?

This was my first attempt at producing a music video.
I agreed to make a video for him because he was getting requests for such by a local music television show and needed my help. There was no pre-arranged payment for the video work, just a friendly gesture really. Well the video turned out great and now I’m beginning to wonder about how much distribution this video might really have. I would simply like to receive credit as an example of my work (in order to get further work of course). I’d rather not present my friend with some kind of scary contract that says he owes me 2% of any profit from any marketing of the video. Or is that not so crazy? Maybe there is not that much money behind producing music videos that I should be concerned. After all, I only spent a half day of shooting and about 10 hours of editing.

Don’t want to ruin a friendship, but sure would like to be fair about recognition for my work.

    Thanks for your insight.

    Holy Macaroni.

That was it. Machine control is back. But now the question begs, what am I going to capture to?

Can I just plug the FW800 Caldigit back in and go from here? Or do I need to consider one of those PCMIA card Firewire cards to avoid future conflicts? Seems like I read something about using such a device in another forum.

your thoughts? AND- THANKS AGAIN. Another COW success story.
