    Hi Rob & David,
it was a native capture – shot in DVCPROHD 1080i60 (FS&P2), edited in DVCPROHD 1080i60 (all non – DVCPROHD 1080i60 material coverted to DVCPROHD 1080i60 in Compressor).

The only reason for me to try to get the best possible Uncompressed 8 bit file is that the PBS station that will do the Spec Check and Close Caption work etc. asked for an 8 bit uncompressed file to work with.

And since I did not like 2 shots from my first conversion – DVCPROHD 1080i60 Final Cut Self-contained QT file through Compressor to an Uncompressed 8 bit file – I am now rebuilding the Original Timeline and will set the compressor in the sequence settings to Uncompressed 8 bit and export it as a Quicktime movie with the current settings.

I’m curious how this will look – especially regarding the 2 marginal shots.

BTW: I’m sure you all know this – but it surprised me quite a bit that a 30 min show conversion from DVCPROHD 1080i60 to 8 bit Uncompressed resulted in a 195 GIG file.

    Thanks again

    Ralf

    Thanks John,
your response is a long my line of thinking and will scrutinize the uncompressed file. And yes the final output is to HDCAM tape.

Thanks guys for taking the time to help figure this out. I like the aquarium idea but unfortunately it’s not going to work because I’ll never know where the critters will show up in advance. And yes the thought of a hungry fish swallowing one of the lipstick cameras did cross my mind…..
and since I really would like the footage to work as well as possible with the HVX200 leaves only the option of getting a cheaper (and/or lightest) HD Camera and UW Housing with an uw plug for feeding a monotoring setup.
I’m now playing with the idea to weld a cage to a pole, set the camera/housing in it, strap an external monitor on the other end of the pole and hope that this works.
Do you have any experience with any of the lower end HD cameras and housings?
I’m looking at the Sony HDR HC7 and Ikelite housing or the Canon HV-20 and Ikelite housing.
    Others in this price range?
BTW – I’d like to have the HVX200 on hand for topside shooting while the uw action is happening – that’s why I’m not looking at this time for a HVX housing.
    Thanks again

    thanks Dave,

speaking of batteries. Do I assume right that if I seperate all my spares (Panasonic CGA-D54s-CGD -D28 and Firestore spare) and stick them in ziplocks (seperated) that this will sufffice regarding the TSA folks?

    Hi there,
I’m just getting into the backup (archiving) scenerio with Blue Ray (LaCie d2Blue Ray) using Toast 8.
I’m wondering if I should I use rewritable DVD’s and dynamic writing – using the DVD’s like a HD – or burn write once DVD’s and using Toast to bring the files back into the system?
    Pro’s – Con’s ?
    Thanks

Off course – I cannot recreate the problem today. So it must have been the monotoring of combined channels vs discrete channel. Thanks for the suggestion.
