This is a question to the Panasonic people here in this forum, but:
Key lock is software. No doubt.
And pre recording? I am working now for 20 years in a image processing company as a system programmer. If you are able to write on a given media in real time why not use a file as a ring buffer? Write data, overwrite them etc. If this is to tricky for the Pana people then open file A for 5 seconds, open file B for 5 seconds, open file C for 5 seconds and delete file A. Now start again creating file A. And so on.

HPG 20 and the pre recording feature? The recorder writes in real time on P2 cards. So it’s only a software update to use a certain area on a P2 card as a pre recording (ring) buffer.
And the missing key lock feature? Only a software update. Press a certain button for more then 3 seconds and the keyboard is locked. Every cell phone has this feature!
Why is Panasonic not interested in doing this?

Thanks for answering. Pre recording: wouldn’t it be possible to implement a ring buffer in the recorder like in the HPX 170 and other cameras? For a digital recorder a ring buffer shouldn’t be a problem, or?
And why not built in (in the future) a mini plug for triggering start/stop recording? OK, one cable more from recorder to camera or camera remote control. But the camera man would be able to start/stop the recorder without searching for the record button on the unit? Particularly with regard to the missing key lock feature at the HPG 20.
Thanks a lot

As far as I know you can only map frame rate plus and minus, or? But not a given frame rate.

As far as I know you can assign to the user buttons frame rate plus and minus. To change from 24 to 60p is a long way 😉
Why not assign a second frame rate to the user buttons like Varicam? One push to 60p, next push back to 24p. This is the fastest way.
What do you mean by “but not on the 300, apparently they ran out of room in the memory”. Is the camera software memory used up?Charles

Hi Shane,
thanks a lot. Could you please keep an eye on this subject? I am stranded.

Hi,
I tried again to get in contact with Raylight via email. But no response. Does anyone have an idea how to contact them. I am in France. Is there no way to change the speed of MXF files without dropping frames or interpolation? 60p or 50p files into a 25p AVID timeline as slomos.
Thanks a lot

Hi Shane,
thanks a lot. Will you inform me when you got in contact with the Raylight team?
All the best

Hi Shane,
thanks for answering. I guess I am in the Panasonic P2 Forum. Am I wrong?
Shane, I tried the Demo Version of MXFX from Raylight. First of all I got the message that my files are not MXF files. Second I am not sure whether it works in this way. I got the (first) impression it will only add/remove pull downs. I wrote an email to Raylight – but no answer. Did you try it with MXFX? Or do you have a contact at Raylight? Thanks a lot Shane
