Having recorded DNxHD MXF and QT on the same SSD the Shuttle played back the QT but not the MXF files. So a mix of different file types seems not to be the problem.

You´ll have to agree that this is quite weird that the device can record something and cannot play it back.
And that there is not hint that is has this “feature”.
Why is it so hard to develop a feature up to the point where it is usable and release it then?

From point of Marketing/Customer I bought a device (I’ve bought two…Shuttle 1+2) that is able to record DNxHD. Which for me means it can record and playback DNxHD – and not “yes, but…”.
Concerning the price – if they say: it is cheap and you maybe have some things that may not work properly, ok.
They do not. Marketing says: it’s awesome and offers this and that and more.
I have a 75k machine in my Post facility – and it works for many many years, because people have thought long and precise about it before throwing it into the market.

    BTW:

AMA MXF does not import MXF files from the Shuttle.

So recorded MXF files from Shuttle need to be copied into the following file structure to be detected by Avid MediaTool:

    /Avid MediaFiles/MXF/1/

Beta testing and paying for it.

The Crucial C300 series seem to be EOL.
Is the M4 series an alternative?

    And they do say:

“It is worth remembering that HyperDeck Shuttle 1 is still able to provide
the best possible recording quality with uncompressed video, and that this
is the purpose the device was designed for. It was never designed or sold to
have the ability to record compressed video.”

As usual: not false, but doesn´t cover the full story! Marketing talk…

My answer could be: ok, and why is the Hyperdeck Studio able to do it with an update and not the Shuttle? Shouldn’t it have been not designed to have that ability, too?
And, correct me, wasn´t there that latent “the shuttle will support other codecs in the future”???

    Hi Kristian,

so, unfortunately I have one of the first units. That is really too bad because I like the shuttle very much – but the situation now is really a bad one…

Yes, and because there is no real clarity about that I think it is new hardware – what would really be a pain…

I´ve already downloaded the 2.0 Beta – but it doesn´t look like a firmware update; only a tool where you can change the recording format (which is greyed and only uncompressed 8bit 4:2:2 as usual).
If there is a way to update the firmware I will 🙂
