Well, I tried that; they render fine in another project file. I guess this means I’ll have to replace all of the clips that black out; I was hoping to avoid this because it will be quite time consuming but I guess there is no other way to fix the problem.

They are .avi files; although most of them are XVid compression. The newer ones are compressed with the Lagarith Lossless Codec, but those ones aren’t giving me problems. But they all load into Vegas and appear on the timeline and in the preview box just fine.

The weird thing is that I’ve rendered clips from these .avi files many, many times with Vegas in the past. The stranger part is that I put various clips from the same file on the timeline, and some are rendering and others aren’t; that’s what makes me think it isn’t a file type issue. I saved this same video a few weeks ago and all of the clips rendered fine. I’m just resaving it with some better quality clips, but it isn’t even the newer clips that are a problem, it’s a few of the older ones.

What I’m trying to figure out here is why it worked before but isn’t working now.

The videos aren’t from a camera, they are .avi files stored on my computer from DVDs.

The random parts of the video still won’t render, and I’m getting worried it might be some sort of virus because I’ve never had this problem before.

How would I figure out what codec I’m missing? The files aren’t offline, I’ve checked that.
