September 7, 2006 at 10:59 pm in reply to: Cant get AJ-HD1200A deck to work with FCP5.1.1!! PLEASE HELP!!!!Walter –my only point was that my miniDV camera which has to interact with FCP 5.1.1 also has to interact with QUICKTIME 7.x for Final Cut Pro 5.1.1 to work. If redownloading the latest version of QUICKTIME does the trick, and restores functionality to the computer to interact with the source deck or camcorder ,etc then it was the variable resolving the issue — not the deck necessarily .. Its one more thing to try.
Check out Apple doc

All I know is I had a specific deck that no longer functioned. I have talked with others who have had similar problems to me who had different devices stop working… After we re-downloaded the latest version of Quicktime 7.x. and restarted the computer –Our problems went away..

September 7, 2006 at 6:38 pm in reply to: Unable to log & capture from CANON GL-1 DV camcorder to FCP 5.1.1Update on my original post of Sept 5, 2006 — Pete Collins pjc10000
Over the last few days I have been unable to impot or export video after updating to OS 10.4.7 and FCP Studio 5.1.1.
One of the suggestions was to go to the following site and review its contents:
Try looking here:
https://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=301852
I removed the version numbered receipts for earlier versions of quicktime — but did not notice any change in the software performance after rebooting the computer.
Today. I revisited all of the material and steps I had taken to attempt to restore connectivity between my source deck ( a Canon GL 1 camcorder ) and Final Cut Pro Studio v 5.1.1.
In that review I noted a reference to downloading the latest update of QUICKTIME (quicktime 7.1.2 ) as a last step of removing the numbered versions of Quicktime in the Apple doc listed above.
Since I already had v 7.1.2 on my computer the first time , I ignored that step. Today, I
re-downloaded QUICKTIME 7.1.2 and after restarting the computer, all functionality was restored to FPC 5.1.1 and my connected deck for both logging and capturing and exporting in FCP 5.1.1I guess it pays to not panic when something doesn’t work — and to read the docs fully and slowly to catch all the steps.

September 7, 2006 at 6:23 pm in reply to: Cant get AJ-HD1200A deck to work with FCP5.1.1!! PLEASE HELP!!!!I don’t work in HDV yet — but I had a similiar experience with my Canon GL1 mini DV camcorder ( it is my source and recording deck connected through firewire into the computer.
i very recently upgraded from FCP 4.5 and OS 10.3.9 to OS 10.4.7 and the crossgrade version of FCP STUDIO 5.1 ( which was updated to FCP 5.1.1 )
Right after doing the upgrade my CANON GL-1 ( which has been trouble free since OS 9 and FCP 1.25 ) was no longer recognized by FINAL CUT PRO 5.1.1 and I was unable to either record video to or from FCP 5.1.1 I spent days trying to resolve the problem…
I have just resolved the issue this afternoon. One of the suggestions made at this site was to remove the receipts for version numbered files of Quicktime. I did that at the time but saw no resolution to the problem. Today , I revisited all the steps and went back to the Apple File covering how to resolve suddenly losing video in 5.1.1. This time I realized that I also needed to download the latest version of quicktime AGAIN — even though I already had the latest version already installed… Once I did that , all functionality for my Source deck was restored. I can log and capture and export with no problems.
As soon as I activated my deck — the preview window disappeared and the video returned. i set in points and Out points and recorded the file –then worked with it in the timeline. When I set the view to external ALL FRAMES — I was able to see and hear the file on my source deck LCD screen.
Don’t know if this helps — but it seemed you might be experiencing a similar problem. The screen output to NTSC 720 x 480 (in my case ) was showing that it was missing. After the Quicktime download that and several other choices returned to the software display window in preferences and under the view menu.
