Unable to log & capture from CANON GL-1 DV camcorder to FCP 5.1.1
I just installed 10.4.7 OS on my MAC DUAL 2.0 G-5 as well as the FINAL CUT PRO cross-grade. I own the Canon GL-1 camcorder and use it as my source deck to input to FCP via Firewire. On a separate boot drive, I am still maintaining OS 10.3.9 with FCP 4.5. The 2 CANON special plug-ins are installed. and everything continues to capture well — so I think I’ve ruled out a hardware failure — as files capture normally.
I checked the compatibility issues list at apple and found it was recommended to use FIREWIRE BASIC for the GL-1 in FCP 5 Studio
I appear to be able to control the deck — But FCP 5.1.1 fails to see the video and the program does not appear to recognize the DEVICE. — any suggestions??

Update on my original post of Sept 5, 2006 — Pete Collins pjc10000
Over the last few days I have been unable to impot or export video after updating to OS 10.4.7 and FCP Studio 5.1.1.

I removed the version numbered receipts for earlier versions of quicktime — but did not notice any change in the software performance after rebooting the computer.
Today. I revisited all of the material and steps I had taken to attempt to restore connectivity between my source deck ( a Canon GL 1 camcorder ) and Final Cut Pro Studio v 5.1.1.
In that review I noted a reference to downloading the latest update of QUICKTIME (quicktime 7.1.2 ) as a last step of removing the numbered versions of Quicktime in the Apple doc listed above.
Since I already had v 7.1.2 on my computer the first time , I ignored that step. Today, I
re-downloaded QUICKTIME 7.1.2 and after restarting the computer, all functionality was restored to FPC 5.1.1 and my connected deck for both logging and capturing and exporting in FCP 5.1.1I guess it pays to not panic when something doesn’t work — and to read the docs fully and slowly to catch all the steps.

Just a short thanks — After days of struggling — I went back and reviewed the Apple doc you originally recommended I review, and in re reading it, I went back and redownloaded QUICKTIME 7.1.2 ( even though I already had 7.1.2 on my computer — When I restarted the computer and opened FCP Studio 5.1.1 — everything was restored and working perfectly….
