I know, but I don’t think the budget could go as up as 5K$CAD, and for he G-Speed 1.5TB, it’s 4.4K$CAD. It seems to gonna be the solution if I can’t get a good eSATA RAID5 for around 2-3K$CAD.

The CalDigit S2VR HD seems to be exactly what I need, for 2K$.

Oh damn, you mean you don’t have to connect any cables to the drives, it’s kind of built-in plugged ? Very bad, very bad Apple, would be so easy to do into a PC. Ok well, I’ll keep looking for external RAID. Do you have other suggestions apart of the very nice looking 3ware ?

    Thanks a lot !

    I know RAID5 need hardware controller, that’s why I suggested to use a PCI-X RAID controller, shouldn’t work ?

    For external, I found that:

Yeah, Mac Pro 2x Dual-Core 2.66GHz Xeon. Thanks for the link, very interesting. But having OS on FW drive works pretty well, read reviews and Jerry Hoffman’s article in Cow Magazine.

But why I can’t get RAID5 with internal SATA drives and a PCI-X RAID controller?

Who talked about “cheap & easy” ? I just don’t have additional 5000$ for Ciprico or G-Speed array. But I didn’t know I can’t get RAID5 with internal SATA, why ?

    I think I found a great solution. I will fill the G5 with 4 Seagate 7200.10 750GB with PCI-X RAID controller (Which is good ?) and install OSX-FCP on a separate FW800 external drive, doesn’t sound rock-solid ?!

G-SATA seems to be perfect if I got 2, for 2TB.
