Thank you Shane.
Email on the way. -
A little late to this post but wanted to get some feedback.
Setting system sound settings to digital in/out seems to make the PP6 audio playback much better.
Problem now is any audio played through other apps like QT and web browsers won’t play out.
We are monitoring the audio out of the embedded SDI via a disembedder.
Any suggestions for other settings would be appreciated.Thanks.

Okay we got the reel numbers but the media won’t trim. Over 1TB of ProRes LT source material edited down to a 12 minute sequence wants to be just under 1TB. Any other ideas?

Josh,
Nice post.
Of course what would really solve this is if Apple would just write into the app the ability to save your templates to another location. I’m sure they never thought about shared environments when the first wrote the app. We’ve kinda solved the issue at my work by having an r-sync script that runs every 5 minutes or so and syncs users local templates to a place on the XSAN. If someone opens up a project with a Motion Template from another user the know they have to go reconnect the template to the shared templates folder. Once this link is made it never goes back to the original local template.Good luck!

So far the only solution I’ve found is to create a sync folders automator workflow that looks at your local templates folder and syncs it to a shared folder on the XSAN. I’ve made this an automator application that I have iCal run every couple of hours. When another editor opens a project with one of my templates they will initially have to reconnect to the shared template but once that is done it forever connects with the shared version. Still early on our testing but so far it does what it needs to do. You’ll need to download the sync folders action from.

Gary,
The 480 issue is base on 1 big issue. Much of our content comes from DVDs, whether it be directors reels or commercial reels of spot from within our agency. DVD is 720×480. What we have found is importing this DVD content using MPEG Streamclip in the 486 frame size degrades the image because it is stretching the frame adding 4 lines to the top and 2 to the bottom. If we bring in at 480 everything is fine. What we don’t want is to have 2 different frame sizes between our imported DVD footage and our captured from tape footage. We would like to avoid the render time associated with this workflow. We have been able in the past to work in 480 using DVCPro50 for both import and capture. We’ve moved from FCS 1 to FCS 2 finally. Would like to shift to ProRes but if we can’t capture at 480 we might just stay in the DV world for SD.
Thanks for you insight.

So Gary what you’re saying is 720×486 is ProRes’s native SD size and there’s no way of changing to 480?
-
Thanks. I’ve tried duplicating the ProRes preset and changing the frame size to DV(720×480). FCP seems to ignore and capture at 720×486. Is it possible that this codec is somehow locked at the D1 frame size when capturing? I know I can transcode into ProRes and make the frame size 720×480 using MPEG Streamclip or Compressor.

Never had to make any adjustments on the Kona control panel when capturing same sources to DVCPro50. Not sure why it would be different with ProRes.

Capturing Beta and Digi Beta with a Kona 3. I can capture DVCPro50 from these decks @ 720×480 but no ProRes. Is there something I’m missing in the FCP capture settings besides setting the frame size to DV?
