March 5, 2011 at 10:28 pm in reply to: 5D Workflow – Captured footage with Grinder and Canon PluginYou can if you used the Canon plug-in, and you still have an archive of the original files, it creates a timecode from the TOD data on the original files.
I ditch the transcoded footage after I’m completely sure the version of the project is complete. I’ve had to do some updates to completed projects later and re-importing from originals later was not a problem.
Be careful with sound if done double system though.I tested a trial version of Grinder, it created a field dominance making it look like interlaced footage, couldn’t figure out a way of changing it so I ignored it, especially as you have to pay for it.

March 5, 2011 at 1:18 am in reply to: suggestion for shooting this add…a mixture of real life subjects and virtual objectsIf the production company were really serious about this they’d have the the person doing the effects work (you?) on set during the shoot as an advisor.
This way everything necessary for post can be done correctly, saving endless hassle and re-shooting.
So many times I’ve been on shoots where the effects department wasn’t represented and hours, or days, and on one movie weeks were added to post production due to relatively small issues. Contary I’ve also been on shoots where the post production effects person was present, and was able to give advice that not only helped post but simplified some of the shooting because he was able to advise the crew on things that were time consuming or difficult for them that could be done more easily in post.

If you are capturing from a Canon you won’t be capturing a clean camera output but the image you see in the viewfinder, ie superimposed camera info etc.
I believe the only HDSLR a clean camera out can be captured from via HDMI is the Panasonic GH2.Cinematographer, Steadicam Operator, Final Cut Pro Post Production.

This is a great lens for video. It’s an L series with a constant aperture and a nice wide f stop of 2.8.

You might also like to look at the Tascam DR100 as an alternative to ZoomH4n.
More manual controls and a little more user friendly than the Zoom H4nCinematographer, Steadicam Operator, Final Cut Pro Post Production.

The 7D does not drop to SD when recording like other Canon HDSLRs, but you still can’t get a clean HDMI out, you get all the camera info.

Powerpoint needs a wmv file.
It’s not embedded into the presentation just linked, so the wmv video file needs to be included in the folder for presentation.Cinematographer, Steadicam Operator, Final Cut Pro Post Production.
