Not software RAID, you were right that it’s the Apple Raid card. 2tb limit is what I suspected. What about 3mbs vs 6 mbs.

According to Blackmagic drive speed app, my write speed is around 240mbs and my read speed is slightly higher – would this improve with a software raid? Otherwise I still see no benefit from removing it.

    Thanks!

So Gary are you suggesting simply recording the P2 files and not bother with the KiPro?

Thank you that reinforces everything I believed about the extra step of using the KiPro. A few more questions:

“and the original Ki Pro product is not capable of recording 1080p 60” How do I know if my vendor has and Original? Is there a newer product that will inconvert to 1080 60p?

My dilemma is, small size more frames and progressive vs large size and interlacing. My deliverable is 1080i. Given the available formats of the HPX500,
    1080/60i
    1080/24p (over 60i)
    1080/24pA (over 60i)
    1080/30p (over 60i)
    720/60p
    720/24p (over 60p)
    720/30p (over 60p)
    720/24pN (Native)*2
720/30pN (Native)*2: In the Native mode, AG-HPX500 series record only active frames.

how what is the optimum settings for the camera/ KiPro for greenscreen?

Second – connected via HD-SDI does the KiPro require it’s own buttons pressed to record and stop or can it be triggered from the camera like, for instance, and Atmos Samurai?

    Thanks!!!

May 17, 2013 at 2:34 pm in reply to: Error Message – OS or Pr? And What To Do?

Thanks Kris – actually I have tried that, tried XML export/import but lost attributes, Also tried prefs, permissions, p-ram, media cache, etc etc. To copy and paste the sequence into a new project does not bring along my carefefully laid out bins, so even if it’s stable I have to do all that hand sorting again, and re-import what’s not in the timeline (can you even do that?)

What I have found is that it doesn’t keep me from working, saving or exporting. And I am backing up to two locations using Pr and and ProVersioner every five minutes.

Not a solution but a workaround.

Eric – here’s what bothers me about the Red drives – IntelliPower had a Green ring to it, eh? (headers would not line up)
Model # Interface Form Factor RPM Capacity Cache
    WD30EFRX SATA 6 Gb/s 3.5 Inch IntelliPower 3 TB 64 MB
    WD20EFRX SATA 6 Gb/s 3.5 Inch IntelliPower 2 TB 64 MB

    Kinda pricey then https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822145621

I don’t see an RPM for the WD Red Drives…got burned by Green, now suspicious.

I back up with an OCD passion so I think the less expensive drives might still be ok for me.

Back in the Media 100 daze I used to have 10K rpm SCSI drives…ironic ain’t it?

Hey Eric thank you so much for your reply. I was remiss in not describing my rig – it’s a 2010 MacPro 12 core with an Apple Raid Card and 1tb drives in each of the 4 bays. Bay 1 is the system drive, bays 2-4 are a Raid 0. So the bigger drives would replace bays 2-4 for more capacity. I am reasonably satisfied with the 250mbs throughput I get for my DVCPRO HD material. It’s just that 3tb is getting to be too cramped nowadaze. I would use WD Caviar Black or similar 7200rpm drive. I was concerned over whether the jump from 3 to 6gb/s and 32 to 64mb cache would be tolerated.

Yes, I did, thanks. However I have solved the problem in the most unlikely of ways. In July, long before these projects, I installed a new boot drive with Lion and that’s what these projects were done under. I had an idea and reinstalled the 10.6.8 drive I had shelved, and then I was able to remove the files. Note the Lion system disc under which these files were copied to the RAID is dual boot 10.7.5 and 10.6.8 and neither would delete the files. But the system drive removed months before did delete them, Curious, but it worked.
