get Steve Hullfish’s book and dl the color finesse demo. The CF manual is also very good but the CF interface provides an ideal intro – especially with the Hullfish book which uses CF a lot

there are thousands of very cheap used turntables around – it should be quite easy to slow down a belt drive model

FCP has a built in 4&8 point garbage matte generators and there are are also free 16/32+ point generators. Just duplicate the clip move the copy up one track and apply the matte, feather the edges and apply different CC filters to the two versions.
also try duplicating the clip and using composite modes might also help

vidoegraphers are always going to want to hear live audio in a demo, they are looking to assess your technical competence. For brides I would include samples of both. A lot depends on the actual audio you are using.

B&H will have it all – diopters come in sets of 3 or 4. The 14x or diopters alone may work fine but the 1.6 extender allows you to move the camera back so that the shadow of the camera won’t (hopefully) interfere with the subject

I think Daniel is referring to the stock XL1 lenses – an EF adapter will allow you to use Canon prime lenses which will resolve enough detail
