Ty – why an omni rather than a cardiod to mic a soundsystem speaker?

absolutely – you can switch gain off in most cameras – but the image will look like garbage because it has no contrast – dynamic range is the key to good images

the bogen roadrunner series are built for speed of set-up. But tripods at a reception can be like cars in the city – it’s not the speed, it’s finding somewhere to park.

this is happening with color correction filters and the like which are not dependent on the clip length, or at least shouldn’t be…

you can use zebra stripes to warn of overexposure. Histograms as found on DSLRs would be a great feature on a video camera.I can’t think why they haven’t included them.

Very simply a waveform monitor represents exposure and a vectorscope color. Neither of them are essential on a shoot unless you have control over the lighting – although they can be useful to match cameras and maximize dynamic range.

I agree with walter – I have 7 lacie FWHDS – the one failure was of a WD drive.
