You may have tried this already. I’m using the same MacBook Pro laptop. After upgrading to 10.6.3, I noticed almost a doubling of render times on a comp I use every week. I found that I had turned on “Render Multiple Frames Simultaneously” at some point. I turned this off and restarted AE and my render times dropped dramatically.

I’m finding that image imports don’t seem as sharp as the clips
generated by the Lyric plug-in. (I’m using ver. 6.1) The render time
makes the plug-in unusable for us. Do the newer versions (6.5 / 7) address this?

It’s interesting that images exported by Lyric for subsequent importing into Avid also appear soft. What does the Lyric plug-in do that an external image with alpha can’t replicate?
